The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.


Scope of Position:

• Process Technician supporting optical system assembly & test.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Provide daily production support to resolve process upsets

• Identify and lead process improvements to reduce cost, increase capacity, and extend capability (variability, cycle-time, complexity, and scrap reduction)

• Lead new product introductions into the production system

• Author documentation and provide training to operations associates.

• Collaborate with the commercial team to quote new products.

• Collaborate with the quality team to respond to customer complaints and returns.


Travel Requirements:

• < 5%. Typical travel includes special training/networking opportunities and potential customer and vendor visits.


Hours of work:

• Typical first shift production hours, M-F, 8am-5pm. Evening and weekend support as needed.


Required Education: Associates degree or 2 year technical degree


Required Years and Area of Experience: 0 to 5 years


Desired Skills:

• Ability e to effectively work with production groups and division engineering.

• Mechanical, Optical, or Industrial Engineering training.

• Previous experience in technical manufacturing and process support.

• • Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Function as part of a team

• Ability to learn and grow

• Prioritize and multi-task

• Performance excellence training and project leadership a plus - Green Belt, Lean, or PQA experience.
