Corning’s Glass Technologies segment manufactures chemically strengthened cover glass, such as Gorilla® Glass® for the consumer electronics market and glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide Electrical Design support for Melting Furnace Installations, repairs and equipment upgrades
  • Lead Technology/Knowledge Transfer from Central Engineering group to World Wide plants
  • Lead Controls/Electrical Design/ Development efforts for Melting, Forming and Controls/Electrical Development Groups with a focus on “upfront” engineering
  • Thoroughly document all designs/developments to ensure fast and efficient technology transfer to Display Technologies facilities
  • This is a functional position that requires strong technical curiosity, strong leadership skills, and the ability to train others


Role within group:

  • Primary Role is the Design of Electrical Power systems from conception to migration:  Design, Build, Test, Install, Commissioning, and Migration.  Be the technical expert/owner to provide 3rd level support to production facilities worldwide as needed.
  • Define requirements/specifications for new electrical designs in order to meet customer needs for cost reduction and new functionality
  • Design/Implement modifications to existing worldwide power systems and provide inputs to technology migration plans for these designs


Projects involved with:

  • Various development projects to support Melting, Forming, and Controls/Electrical activities using both internal and external resources
  • Rebuild and expansion project support (international and domestic)


Travel Requirements:

International (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China) and domestic travel are required up to 40%


Minimum Requirements for Candidate:

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering OR MSEE 
  • Experience/knowledge with Modern Power System Design (architecture and detailed level design) including Low & Medium voltage, single and three phase electrical systems, SCR Controllers, Transformer Design, Efficiency, and an understanding of National Electric Code and other code compliance
  • Project Leadership experience (specification, scope, budget, schedule, and risk management)
  • Strong understanding of Electrical Theory and Electrical Devices SCRs, Transformers, Motors, PDP, Circuit Breakers, Power Cables, etc.)
  • Familiarity performing complex engineering power calculation utilizing tools like MATLAB, Microsoft Excel, Spice, and general inclination to software mastery.
