Description

Omega Therapeutics is a development-stage biotechnology company pioneering the first systematic approach to use mRNA therapeutics as a new class of programmable epigenetic medicines by leveraging its OMEGA Epigenomic Programming™ platform. The OMEGA™ platform harnesses the power of epigenetics, the mechanism that controls gene expression and every aspect of an organism's life from cell genesis, growth and differentiation to cell death. Using a suite of technologies, paired with Omega's process of systemic, rational and integrative drug design, the OMEGA platform enables control of fundamental epigenetic processes to correct the root cause of disease by returning aberrant gene expression to a normal range without altering native nucleic acid sequences. Omega's engineered, modular, and programmable mRNA-encoded epigenetic medicines, Omega Epigenomic Controllers™, target specific intervention points amongst the thousands of mapped and validated proprietary and novel DNA-sequence-based epigenomic loci, EpiZips™ to durably tune single or multiple genes to treat and cure disease through Precision Genomic Control™. Omega is currently advancing a broad pipeline of development candidates spanning a range of disease areas, including oncology, regenerative medicine, multigenic diseases including immunology, and select monogenic diseases.

About the Role:

Omega Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking a Principal Scientist to join our Tissue Fibrosis and Regeneration Biology team. The successful candidate will be an essential member of a close-knit team of research scientists, a key contributor supporting drug development programs, and a lead in efforts to expand our scientific capabilities within the fibrosis/immunology/tissue regeneration space. We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, agile, and highly motivated individual with a passion for bringing novel medicines to patients and who are comfortable working on a fast-paced scientific team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading, designing, and executing experiments for drug discovery programs within the Tissue Fibrosis and Regeneration discovery area
  • Provide hands-on supervision and scientific mentorship to junior scientists/research associates within the group
  • Coordinate activities and act as a key point of contact for external CROs
  • Identify, evaluate, and apply novel techniques and emerging technologies in an opportunistic manner
  • Effectively communicate complex biological data to stakeholders at all levels by elucidating key messages to speed decision-making

Required Skills:

  • An in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of concepts and hands-on experience in cellular and molecular mechanisms and in vitro/in vivo model systems relevant to the biology of fibrosis, regeneration, cell signaling, and/or immunology
  • Deep expertise in biochemical, molecular and cell-based techniques including multicolor flow cytometry, gene silencing techniques (siRNA/CRISPR/TALEN), multiplex immunoassays (Luminex/MSD), and primary human/mouse cell culture
  • Drug discovery experience targeting fibrosis/immunology disease areas is highly desired
  • Keen understanding of experimental design, underlying scientific principles, and the ability to rigorously analyze and document results
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to clearly communicate results to a scientific audience and to maintain detailed written records
  • Excellent scientific leadership skills with a record of accomplishment in project execution and mentoring of junior associates
