Position Overview:

The Analytical Technology group within Biologics Downstream Process Development and Engineering (DPDE) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our cross-functional team in Kenilworth, NJ. Primary responsibilities of this position will focus on the application of two dimensional liquid chromatography (2D-LC) for advanced process and product characterization of biotherapeutics. Additionally, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will focus on evaluation and implementation of 2D-LC as a  new Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) to support both traditional and continuous manufacturing efforts for Biologics. The selected individual will have the opportunity to work with a wide array of scientists from across Merck Research Labs (MRL), Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD) and academic collaborators to make significant contributions towards Merck’s therapeutic protein pipeline, PAT and facility of the future development efforts.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Developing 2D-LC methodology for analytical characterization of biotherapeutics
  • Implementing platform 2D-LC methodology across Biologics Bioprocess Development and Clinical Manufacturing
  • Establishing 2D-LC as a large molecule PAT tool
  • Defining pathway for cGMP implementation of 2D-LC  


Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:   
  • PhD with less than 3 years of Postdoctoral Experience or achieved a  Ph.D. by Spring/Summer of  2018 
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Fundamental understanding of two dimensional liquid chromatography approaches (LC-LC, LCxLC, and sLCxLC)
  • Thorough knowledge of separations science
  • Experience with UPLC/HPLC analysis of proteins/biologics (SEC, Pro A, RP, IEX) 
  • Proficient with Empower and Chemstation software systems
 Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Experience with Mass Spectrometry characterization of proteins (i.e. peptide mapping, intact mass, and reduced mass)
  • Applied knowledge of multivariate data analysis (MVDA) and Chemometrics
  • Knowledge of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and Automation
