Position Overview: 

Merck Biologics Discovery – Boston is seeking a highly talented, self-motivated postdoctoral structural biologist to join our Antibody and Protein Engineering group.  The successful candidate will work on computationally designing and experimentally implementing/validating libraries of binding proteins such as antibodies and non-Ig scaffolds. The candidate will work closely with scientists from Protein Science group.  The position offers an exciting opportunity to develop an innovative platform technology that enables discovery and molecular engineering of biotherapeutics for unmet medical needs.
 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing and implementing novel antibody and non-Ig scaffold binding protein libraries by employing molecular biology, biochemistry, and structural modeling
  • Designing screening strategies and selecting binding proteins against diverse targets
  • Collaborating with Protein Science scientists conducting antibody production, purification, and biochemical characterization
  • Data interpretation, manuscript preparation, publication and presentation of results.

Education Minimum Requirement:  
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines with less than 3 years of Postdoctoral Experience or achieve a  Ph.D. by Spring/Summer of  2018 

 Required Experience and Skills:
  • Track record of publication in topics involving protein/antibody structure analysis, library design, or antibody repertoire analysis
  • Experience in using protein structure modeling software such as MOE (preferred), PyMOL, or Rosetta
  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniques
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Research experiences in binding protein discovery/engineering using yeast or phage display techniques
