Position Overview:

As a postdoctoral fellow in Merck Research Labs, Discovery Chemistry Department based in Kenilworth, NJ, you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists to design, develop and apply novel chemical transformations which are compatible with DNA-encoded library (DEL) synthesis to improve the novelty and the diversity of DNA-encoded libraries. This work will enable the further advancement of the field of DEL technology in order to fully leverage the power of DEL in drug discovery research.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting chemical research to develop and apply novel on-DNA chemical reactions 
  • Collaborating with Merck and external scientists to apply modern chemo-catalysis, bio-catalysis and high throughput experimentation (HTE) in DNA-compatible chemical reaction discovery
  • Collaborating with Merck and external scientists  to develop novel platform and/or technologies to expand the scope of on-DNA reaction conditions
  • Data interpretation, manuscript preparation, publication and presentation of results
  • Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment

Education Minimum Requirement:  
  • PhD with less than 3 years of postdoctoral experience or achieved a  Ph.D. by Spring/Summer of  2018 
Required Experience and Skills: 
  • Skilled in synthetic organic chemistry and reaction optimization
  • Ability to conceive, design, execute and communicate complex experiments in the field of synthetic organic chemistry as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Must be an independent and self-motivated scientist
Preferred Experience and Skills: 
  • Experience with water-compatible reactions
  • Experience with biomolecules, such as DNA, RNA, peptides or proteins and their conjugation chemistry
  • Experience with modern catalysis, such as chemo-catalysis and biocatalysis 
  • Experience with modern analytical methods for biomolecules
