Position Overview:

As a postdoctoral fellow in Merck Research Labs Biostatistics and Research Decision Sciences (BARDS) based in Rahway, NJ or Upper Gwynedd, PA you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists to design, develop and evaluate statistical models for benefit-risk analysis to identify patient subgroups using novel data-driven approaches. This work will enable better understanding of BR profiles of target subpopulations to deliver improved treatment strategies.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Based on real clinical trial data, carry out simulations to address realistic scenarios/issues identified as relevant for BR subgroup analysis
  • Develop expertise in Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and win ratio methods to address multiple and potentially conflicting criteria, differing perspectives, and uncertainty
  • Develop expertise in statistical learning including clustering and Principal Component Analysis to identify patient characteristics to treatment response 
  • Develop expertise in visual analytics to develop appropriate visual/graphical displays to support the interpretation and to aid decision-making
  • Develop and maintain good working relationship with internal and external experts in the field

Education Minimum Requirement:  
  • PhD with less than 3 years of Postdoctoral Experience or achieved a  PhD by Spring/Summer of  2018 
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Skilled in statistical modeling and learning, preferably in clinical trials
  • Experience with benefit-risk analysis
  • Experience in statistical learning including supervised and unsupervised learning
  • Experience and willingness to work in a cross-functional team
Preferred Experience and Skills: 
  • Strong statistical coding skills with the ability to develop statistical methods, simulations and applications on real life data in R and/or SAS
  • Experience with, and awareness of the issues surrounding subgroup analysis in clinical development
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the regulatory requirements of benefit-risk assessment
  • Experience with statistical approaches to dynamic treatment allocation and individualized treatment regimes (ITRs)
  • Excellent writing skills with strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
