Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of position: Tends automatic equipment that conveys metal objects through a series of cleaning, rinsing, and plating solutions to plate objects. Observes plating operation to insure conformance with company standards.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Prepare all process equipment to start plating operations.

• Add and maintain chemicals on the plating line by following the chemical add sheet from the chemical lab and record data on the chemical add sheet.

• Read and understand all MSDS labels on various chemicals.

• Perform major trouble shooting on the plating line.

• Place parts in automatic and/or semi-automatic plating process baths to go through a series of cleaning, rinsing, drying and various chemical applications to required specifications.

• Make significant computer program adjustments to ensure continuous operation on the plating line.

• Conduct periodic quality control checks on plated surfaces as required in the various plating applications.

• Record amounts of parts processed through the plating line on a daily production sheet.

• Operate hand and full size forklifts in a safe and efficient manner as required to move pallets of parts to assigned locations.

• Calculate surface area for plating and measure for correct coating thickness using an x-ray machine.

• Re-work any non-conformant plating parts by using various chemical applications.

• Assist in maintaining proper inventory and storage of necessary chemicals, supplies and equipment.

• Train lesser skilled employees and cross train on basic plating operations.

• Maintain safety and quality standards using acceptable housekeeping practices and 5s processes on equipment and work area.

• Maintain good verbal and written communication with lead person/supervisor concerning problems, especially as related to plating processes.

 

The above description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned.

 

Hours of work: 2nd shift, 3:30pm – 2:00am, Mon – Thur (4 x 10), with mandatory overtime as needed

 

Required Education: High School Diploma/GED

 

Required Years of Experience: 1 -3 years plating experience

 

Required Skills:

1. Good math skills

2. Chemical handling

 

Desired Skills:

1. Electrolytic or Gold plating

2. Knowledge of barrel plating
