Manage all plant operations. Responsible for the implementation and achievement of short- and long-range objectives, policies, budgets, and operating plans for the plants.



  • Direct all operating activities at plant, including production schedules, materials, equipment, and workforce requirements. Ensure that operations run efficiently and in a cost-effective manner.  Monitor and maintain the high quality of products and services.
  • Develop short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, and staffing plans.  Oversee the development of a plan for backup and succession of key personnel.
  • Develop site operating budget, including payroll, materials, supplies, and capital expenditures. Authorize expenditures in accordance with budget.  Approve budget and expenses of subordinates.
  • Direct and monitor performance of direct reports.  Provide regular coaching and counseling.  Prepare and deliver salary and performance reviews; review and approve performance and salary appraisals initiated by direct reports.
  • Interview and select qualified exempt-level departmental personnel.  Recommend, review and approve personnel actions, including hiring, promotions and raises.  Partner with Human Resources in the handling of disciplinary issues.  Prepare and/or approve appropriate personnel action paperwork. 
  • Ensure that management training and development needs are identified and programs initiated.  Direct the development of departmental orientation and other training programs. 
  • Monitor and determine appropriate overall levels of overtime for the site.  Review and approve vacation/time off requests for direct reports. 
  • Ensure optimum performance of site.  Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
  • Direct the development and communication of departmental systems, SOPs, policies and procedures.  Partner with Human Resources to develop and approve departmental job descriptions; ensure communication of duties and responsibilities to employees.
  • Assume responsibility for morale at site.  Maintain open communication with employees and addresses/resolves employee issues, concerns and suggestions.  Build morale through recognition programs, plant activities and communication exchanges.  Increase competency and job satisfaction of workforce through appropriate training activities.
  • Enforce and support Company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all Company, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Represent the Company to customers, visitors, community organizations, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure adherence to the Company safety program.

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Animal Science, Business Administration or related discipline.  Veterinary degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) preferred.
  • Experience:  Seven to nine years related experience and/or training.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
