Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:


The purpose of this job description is to provide a general overview of responsibilities associated with the position; however, the responsibilities listed are not all-inclusive. There is an expectation that as a HCF employee, an individual may be required to perform duties other than outlined below. Support position to plan, organize, and control Supply Chain operations within Planning, Scheduling and Procurement to optimize utilization of HCF's equipment, materials, and manpower to provide maximum customer service. Works in conjunction with regional and global supply chain teams, PLM, production, quality, technology and plant management to plan and execute to deliver high level of service and cash flow performance. Participate in monthly plant/Regional S&OP partnership meetings with divisional planning to gain join understanding and agreement at regional level. Identify and resolve capacity constraints to support volatile demand. Develops and recommends plant inventory management strategies and lean tools to gain efficiency and drive solutions. This position will include a varying level of project work. Expect to participate in cross-functional teams within the plant and within Corning to enhance our performance in areas such as manufacturing efficiency, supply chain operations and customer service. Additionally, this position will serve as a department representative for any projects relating to Manufacturing Execution Systems (CoMET) and Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP).


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Supervise production planning/scheduling activities, including order management (order confirmation to order fulfillment), resource planning, delivery promising, production forecasting, reporting of actual manufacturing results vs. plan and VMI location management.
  • Ensure plant meets targeted objectives for all delivery metrics including On-Time Performance, Order Cycle Time, and order dating.
  • Set and manage expectations with customer service, Product Line Management in regard to ATP (available to promise) levels and manufacturing plans.
  • Supervise production control activities of work center loading, coordination of experiments, maintaining priorities and serve as department's primary liaison with the operations, engineering, and quality departments.
  • Supervise procurement activities, from requisition to payment for fiber, other raw materials, capital and indirect materials.
  • Accountability for raw material and finished goods inventory goals driven by strategic stocking decisions based on contract, business strategy, or material availability needs.
  • Drive continuous improvements utilizing lean and six sigma supply chain tools (value stream mapping, Kaizen, DMAIC, etc.)
  • Serve as a business resource for the MES and ERP systems, working in conjunction with system SME positions.
  • Manages new product implementation, for the final release to manufacturing operations.
  • Serve on extended product team for FR and Ribbon providing analysis on capacity, inventory and delivery performance.
  • Responsible for the development of department personnel through establishing objectives, performance appraisal, feedback and direction that are aligned with business, product and individual development needs.
  • Generate reports and analysis that increase the effectiveness of planning and manufacturing operations.
  • Directly responsible for performing work in a safe manner and maintaining a safe work environment. Responsible for his/her safety, as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working or visiting. Responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive for reporting unsafe conditions.


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required / Concentration or degree in Supply Chain preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of relevant planning, supply chain, or operations experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership
  • 1-2 years of experience working with SAP or similar ERP system.
  • MS Excel reporting experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Experience in continuous improvement and utilizing Lead and Six Sigma supply chain tools.


Desired Experience:

  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
  • APICS or other supply chain certification preferred.
