*$3,000 Signing Bonus* # POSITION SUMMARY Pharmacy Technicians are an integral member of the Pharmacy department. They assume responsibility and accountability for maintaining medication inventories in the pharmacy and ancillary areas. The technician provides care to the patient through effective communication with nurses, pharmacists, physicians and patients and their family members. The technician is primarily responsible for preparing all IV admixtures including chemotherapy, unit dose packaging and refilling Omnicell cabinets. The technician must effectively communicate with all healthcare providers and refer appropriate information and concerns to the pharmacist. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High School Diploma is required. Completion of a Certified Pharmacy Technician course is preferred. Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows as well as office equipment is desirable. Successful completion of the data entry, and pharmacy nomenclature standards as administered by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Human Resources staff. License/Certificates: Registration with the State of MN Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician required. Must successfully complete the certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) course or possess certification within two years of hire. Special Skills and Aptitudes: Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately. Effective interpersonal relationship skills including good listening and communication skills. Ability to be self directed while possessing good organizational and analytical skills. Ability to adjust to stressful situations with confidence and good judgment. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel. Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures. Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly. Assists in filling physician orders. Processes records of medications and supplies dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges and either enters them into the computer or forwards them to Information Systems. Prepares select reports. Aids in the training of Pharmacy Technician students or new employees. Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies. Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities. Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly.# Must be able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, and know to consult with Pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner. Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required. Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filling various physician orders ranging from the newborn to the elderly populations. Demonstrates ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Demonstrates ability to deal with problems involving several variables in particular situations. Recognizes inappropriate dosing based on available dosage forms for various age groups. Compounded Sterile Preparations:# Demonstrates knowledge and skill ensuring that pharmaceutical preparations are sterile, properly packaged, labeled and stored, and not outdated. Ensures compliance with USP#. Low-risk compounding:# The applicable media-fill test will be performed and passed annually, after the initial training and media-fill test is completed and passed. Medium-risk compounding:# The applicable media-fill test will be performed and passed annually, after the initial training and media-fill test is completed and passed.
