The Pharmacy Technicianpositions primary responsibility is to oversee the management of all aspects ofthe practices medication management systems such as refills, drug samples, medicationauthorizations and electronic prescribing systems. In addition, this staff member acts as liaisonbetween the physician practice care team, the pharmacist both internal andexternal, and pharmaceutical representatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsiblefor securing drug sample storage closet
  • Stocks drugsamples
  • Checks the samplecloset for expired medications
  • Disposes ofexpired medications according to state and federal disposal regulations
  • Checks samplestock and makes recommendations for additional inventory
  • Contactspharmaceutical representatives when samples are needed
  • Collectssignatures from physicians for sample medications that come in the mail and faxsigned receipt of samples back to sender
  • Maintains Erxgroups in EHR on a daily basis
  • Distributesand manage faxes from pharmacies
  • Trouble shootsErx and faxing issues
  • Acts assubject matter expert for EHR medication module use and setup
  • Acts asphysician liaison to pharmaceutical representatives
  • Acts asphysician care team liaison to pharmacies
  • Acts as patientliaison to the Care Team
  • AssistsPharmacist as needed
  • Performsmedication reconciliation as needed
  • Manages unmatched electronicprescription refills
  • Identifies medicationassistance programs and assists patients with applying for assistance
  • Establishes and maintainsaccess to state Prescription Monitoring Program
  • Provides educationincluding written materials to patients as needed
  • Process medication prior authorizations
  • Follows up on medication recalls
  • Performspatient outreach for medication adherence, generic drug and other medicationmonitoring reports
  • Assistsmembers of the Care Team with medication research and general questions

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Graduate ofan accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • CurrentPharmacy Technician certification
  • 2+ years'experience working as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Speak fluentSpanish, and have the ability to work with a diverse patient population
  • Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, pharmacistsand outside vendors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managed care pharmacy(e.g., Pharmacy Benefits Manager, clinically related programs, appeals, priorauthorization)
  • Knowledge of Medicare part D
  • Recognize potential drug interactionsor discrepancies
  • Ability to identify and analyze drugdata trends
