This includes but is not limited to: receiving, distribution, management of expiration dates, management of inventory in Pyxis, storage, repackaging, filling orders, delivering, and stocking. The job requires excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.If unlicensed at the time of hire, it is required that the Pharmacy Technician Trainee completes a Board Accredited Training Program within 2 months. Once licensed or if licensed at the time of hire, it is expected a Pharmacy Technician Trainee become certified within 6m. The responsibilities below may be further narrowed dependent on the state of employment's scope of practice for non-certified Pharmacy TechniciansWorks under the supervision of:Pharmacy LeadershipOrdering/ ReceivingAssists with receiving order from wholesalerScans in deliveryProperly inventories/stickers delivery to ensure all items are receivedConfirms that each med is "scannable". Involves pharmacist when appropriateHelps to maintain proper stock levels of drugs, supplies and solutions by Informing in writing, the need for an item when it is getting lowRepackages medications from bulk to unit-dose when necessaryInventory ManagementChecks expiration dates in and outside the departmentCredits and debits patients in Meditech if meds reordered or returnedResolves missing medication issuesEnsures all medications are properly labeledProperly disposes of medications, hazardous substances, sharpsProperly identifies and returns expired meds eligible for creditAssists in semi-annual inventory activities as neededFills Medication OrdersReceives labels and orders, and is able to accurately select proper drug, dosage form and strengthAccurately retrieves medications from ADC fill listNeatly organizes filled meds in bin for Pharmacist to checkAccurately retrieves medications as requested at the windowProperly refills trays and kits including but not limited to: Code Trays, STEMI kits, anaphylaxis kits, "tackle boxes" in preparation for pharmacist to check.Accurately fills OR MachinesDelivers medicationPerforms routine rounds to patient care areas and units in timely mannerDelivers meds to proper location including but not limited to: ADC, Med Room or a nurse if requested.Updates machines with current date for drugOutdates meds in ADC at each delivery to machineReturns meds from the floors when needFills Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC)Under stands process of loading and unloadingFills ADC accurately by consistent use of scannerLoads meds in a neat precise manner without overfilling pocketIs able to trouble shoot minor equipment issues with ADCIs able to reboot equipment as neededCommunicationUses exceptional customer service skills/communication to resolve issuesAnswers phones and triages phone calls that need a pharmacistsCommunicates well with nursing and other staff outside of the pharmacy departmentProfessionalismMaintains a high degree of professionalism within and outside the departmentMaintains excellent working relationships with othersDresses professionallyMaintains a neat, clean and organized work area Represents the Department of Pharmacy and acts as liaison if needed when outside the department Complies with HIPAA policiesSupports the training of new staff Manages time effectively and prioritizes accordinglyMaintains LogsResponsible for the daily accurate documentation of logs including but not limited to : refrigerators, hood cleaning, eye washReports any omissions or errorsHandle Controlled SubstancesMay not handle Federal Controlled SubstancesImmediately reports any concerns/discrepancies to pharmacist or supervisorKnowledge and SkillsWritten and oral communication skills Ability to work in a team environment Ability to problem solveAbility to provide a high level of customer service to patients visitors and staffLicensure and CompetenciesTechnician Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire or once newly licensed as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee.State registration as requiredIs responsible for completing all educational modules including but not limited to: Steward UniversityAdditional InformationImportant COVID messagePlease note, Carney Hospital is taking additional, necessary preparations to ensure patients can receive compassionate care in a safe, carefully managed environment - with confidence and without fear.
