Responsibilities

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the pharmacist in the processing and filling of prescriptions and medication/medical supply orders. Reviews and enters orders & patient information into the pharmacy computer system. Processes and assists in the maintenance of pharmacy inventory. Performs sales transactions and provides customers/patients with information about medications, health insurance, and other health care related services. Files third-party insurance claims on paper and electronically.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential demands include standing, walking, stooping/bending, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; lifting usual weight of 3 pounds; lifting occasional weight of 20 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight of 40 pounds; reaching above, at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motion; frequent gripping of an object. Operates various office/pharmaceutical equipment such as typewriter, computer, copier, fax, telephones, calculator, cash register, dispensing machines, etc.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions. Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer. Exposure to noise/vibration from office/pharmacy equipment. Exposure to body fluids, chemicals and contact with patients with communicable diseases. Works on multiple tasks at the same time. Work environment is fast paced, crowded and may be stressful.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education/Certification and Licensure:
1. Completion of pharmacy technical program or on-the-job education/pharmacy work experience, preferred.

B. Experience:
1. One year work experience, preferably as pharmacy technician/ clerk.
2. Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
3. Ability to use a computer, type, operate calculator, cash register and handle cash transactions.
