Our Phoenix compounding pharmacy is experiencing extraordinary growth and is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join the team full-time. SUMMARY Under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and in accordance with standard departmental procedures, prepare medication for animal consumption. Supports the company's mission, vision, and values. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED Perform duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are checked routinely for maintenance of quality control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice following departmental procedures and policies. Read and interpret veterinarian orders received in pharmacy and transcribe the same onto the pharmacy computer medication profile. Prepare in accordance with standards of pharmacy practice compounds for use under direct pharmacist supervision. Prepare in accordance with pharmacy law and standards of pharmacy practice, prescriptions to be dispensed after pharmacist approval. Check and remove outdated meds on a routine basis to ensure that no deteriorated meds are in stock. Keep appropriate records. Using our compounding system, weigh and record the chemicals included in the formula and then combine the chemicals into the appropriate dosage form as requested by the prescription, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Properly use all equipment in the lab that is necessary to make the compound. Daily recording of the refrigerator and freezer temps where chemicals are stored Calibration and proper documentation of scales, powder hoods, etc. Follow all safety and USP guidelines for the preparation of compounded medications Check and remove outdated meds on a routine basis to ensure that no deteriorated meds are in stock. Keep appropriate records QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED Pharmacy Technician experience preferred Compounding and/or laboratory experience strongly preferred but not required CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Arizona COMPETENCIES (SKILLS AND ABILITIES) Skill in math basics enough to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measurement. Skill in operating a calculator. Skill on a keyboard and operating a computer terminal. Ability to pay attention to details and retain information readily. Ability to read, comprehend, and translate regulations & laws into understandable instructions. Ability to communicate verbally in a professional manner with co-workers, shareholders and other contacts. Ability to effectively function as a team player. Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment with little assistance from the pharmacist or other pharmacy technicians Knowledge of mail-order pharmacy. Must be capable of working with small, delicate pieces of expensive machinery to complete appropriate dosage forms in a timely manner Must be capable of wearing all protective wear which may include, but not limited to mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles, etc. Must have knowledge of basic principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding Exhibit punctuality and low absenteeism PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
