Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, procures, receives, prepares, packages, and distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
  • Maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.
  • Maintains competency and follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
  • Properly operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment.
  • Ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
  • Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting.
  • Responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.
  • Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.
  • Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities, inventory management, and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area.
  • Calibrates IV Pumps and other equipment as needed.
  • Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product and equipment integrity and expiration. Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products.
  • Must be able to demonstrate within the first year full competency in at least 2 primary scheduled areas such as sterile compounding, inventory, operating room, controlled substances, etc.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
  • Provides organizational and technical support to less experienced technicians and assists in training of new personnel.
  • May complete and sign off on orientation and documentation checklists for new technicians.
  • May serve as competency evaluator for direct observation competency assessments.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3 years experience as Pharmacy Technician in any setting or 2 years as Pharmacy Technician with concentrated experience in directly relevant setting (e.g. sterile compounding, compounding, retail, hospital, etc). IV Room experience highly preferred.
  • Internal applicants must fully meet expectations as Pharmacy Technician II with at least an exceeds expectations rating overall in either the What or the How domain of most recent performance appraisal.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate within the first year full competency in at least 2 primary scheduled areas.

  • Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work. Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators may be required.
