Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Director or designee, the Pharmacy Associate II will function as a team member for the client programs within Clinical Pharmacy Services (CPS). CPS is responsible for administering client-specific programs to provide clinical expertise regarding our member's medications. This position will handle calls with members, prescribers and pharmacists to provide and obtain information regarding client-specific initiatives. The incumbent of this position will assist in sorting and review of medication prior authorization requests under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Review medication information, call member and record call outcome in a pharmacy database.
* Handle outbound and inbound phone calls to members, prescribers, and pharmacists regarding client work.• Sort and review medication prior authorization requests within the client's compliance frame.• Assist CPS staff with data entry, medication monitoring and insurance eligibility for ad hoc reports and client work.• Assist CPS consultant pharmacist with obtaining and disseminating information concerning client appeals.• Provide real-time information via telephone to prescribers and pharmacists regarding client questions involving member prescriptions.• Decide in real-time via telephone communications with pharmacies, the approval or denial of prior authorization requests for prescription medications.• May participate in orientation and/or guidance of Pharmacy Associate I or II in performance of their duties.• Follow UMass Chan and CPS policies and procedures.• Participate in CPS staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives and in-service programs as requested.• Perform other client work as required per client initiative(s).

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATIONHigh School Graduate or GED License, Certificate and at least one of the following: Active unrestricted MA Pharmacy Technician License. Active unrestricted National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT). REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE2 years of pharmacy or drug utilization review experience.
