This is an entry level Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern position.  Responsibilities include providing service to customers coming to the pharmacy, answering telephones, assembling floor stock medications, refilling Pyxis machines, transportation of medications to and from nursing floors and departments, pre-packing and labeling medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.  Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.  Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.  Performs other duties as assigned.


Performs all functions above.  In addition, assists pharmacists with all aspects of departmental operations which include, but are not limited to, IV admixture and operation of IV workflow manager system, unit dose order fills, infusion pharmacy support, medication charging functions, and TPN mixing, manually or using an auto-mixer. Performs floor stock inspections. Performs timely and accurate delivery of controlled substances to patient care areas. Performs Pyxis override and ED audits. Prepare anesthesia drug trays and operation of the TraySafe system, prepares emergency drug trays and crash cart replenishments independently according to pharmacy law. Performs Tech-check-Tech functions according to department policy and procedures. Performs home medication information collection in ED and on nursing units. Is able to perform chemotherapy or biohazardous drug mixing under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Knowledge of receiving controlled substances and removing for Pyxis refill and compounding of patient specific doses in C-2 safe (HHI only).


Education, Training and Experience



High school diploma or equivalency. Must possess a valid Technician Certification or Intern Pharmacist License from the State of California.

In addition to the above,  the Tech II requires extensive and comprehensive pharmacy technician job experience.  Working skills in general mathematics and familiar with medication and medical terminology. Demonstrate effective both verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills. Demonstrated proficiency in job responsibilities as Tech I


Working skills in general mathematics and familiarity with drug nomenclature and/or medical terminology. Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation may be required.



In addition to the above, ASPH Accredited Technician Program graduate.


Skills or Other Qualifications


Required:  Demonstrated competency to function as a Tech II in all assigned job areas.

Preferred: Previous experience from a progress hospital pharmacy


License and Certifications


Required: California Board of Pharmacy Technician License

                 PTCB Certification for Tech II

Basic Qualifications
