Job Summary

Under the direction of a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures. As an active member of the pharmacy team, technicians may interpret and prepare medication orders, make deliveries to nursing units, compound medications (sterile and nonsterile), and perform quality assurance responsibilities. A Pharmacy Techinician II may participate in Tech-Check-Tech functions, assist in training pharmacy personel and compound hazardous medications.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Education

Other (explain) - Graduation from a Pharmacy Technician training program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Minimum Experience

2 years - Pharmacy Technician

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses


Specific Acceptable Credentials (if applicable)

Current SC Pharmacy Tech Certification (Lawson Code CPHT)

In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements

In lieu of the completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program only, must be a S.C. Certified Pharmacy Technician who was certified prior to July 1, 2004.

Other Required Experience

Capable of lifting 50 pounds - Required

Must be able to spend the bulk of the shift standing or walking - Required

Any Pharmacy Tech employed at GHS and working in a Pharm Tech II role prior to August 2012, is grandfathered from the pharmacy tech training program requirement if they have 3 years Pharm Tech experience which includes at least 1 year acute care hospital Pharm Tech experience - Required
