Working Hours: Monday-Friday rotating 8:00 AM-5:00PM & 9:00AM-6:00PM except 11:00am-8:00PM on Tuesday (Flexibility with rotating these shifts required)

Occupational Summary:

The pharmacy technician will be based at our Duke pharmacy located at Lincoln Community Health Center, a primary healthcare facility in Durham, North Carolina. Being part of an award winning team in work culture and teamwork, the candidate must demonstrate excellence in customer service while ensuring all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met. The ideal candidate will remain flexible for scheduling needs. The pharmacy tech will perform, under supervision, a variety of duties in accordance to department procedures, which may be related to procurement, preparation, distribution and storage of drugs, as well as assist with clinical pharmacy services according to the Pharmacy's role in ensuring safe medication use. The candidate must be able to balance efficiency with accuracy, work both independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

* To accurately and efficiently follow workflow procedures including prescription processing, medication preparation and distribution to patient.

* Restock automatic dispensing cabinets as needed

* Answer and screens telephones calls and directs calls to appropriate personnel when needed.

* Handle medications in accordance to department, regulatory and legal requirements (e.g., medication records, pulling outdated/unusable medications).

* Collaborates with immediate pharmacy team, insurance companies and customers alike to resolve issues, ensure accuracy and deliver a timely resolution of any medication or insurance related concern.

* Assist with a variety of basic clinical functions in support of the clinical pharmacist (e.g., medication safety and adherence initiatives, patient follow up calls).

* Efficient operation and basic level of technical support for specialty machinery, equipment, devices or software necessary in performing job functions (e.g., automated dispensing cabinets, pharmacy management systems).

* Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas.

* Complete and document all assigned safety and quality activities in compliance with department procedures.

* Manage individual responsibilities while supporting team members and contributing to broader team goals.

* Perform other related duties incidental as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Basic knowledge of drug names, medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations and computer skills.

* Flexibility in work schedule.

* Excellent customer service skills including prioritizing the needs of patients and multidisciplinary team members while displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure complete satisfaction.

* Strong organizational skills including staying focused on assigned task and using time and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve job expectations.

* Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, stooping, and sitting for prolonged times; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs., while walking, stooping, bending and reaching.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

* High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program.

OR

* Acceptance into pharmacy school.

OR

* High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.

Experience

Pharmacy Tech II

* Minimum of one years related experience.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

* Pharmacy Tech I
* Must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within the first 180 days.

* Pharmacy Tech II
* North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration is required.
* Pharmacy Technician certification is required from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
