Position based in Lebanon, NH.

Daily Responsibilities:

Coordinates the onsite inventory functions and ensures that the inventory of supplies and medications meet the needs in an economical and efficient manner:

Key responsibilities:
  • Identify changes in local utilization patterns of medications and supplies and communicate with appropriate buyers
    • Review medications with beyond use dating implications with temperature changes (ie: frozen pre-mix solutions, and refrigerated to room temp products) to optimize inventory at appropriate storage condition
  • Review McKesson invoices/omission reports to assist in identifying medication shortages in a proactive manner
  • Ensure that pharmaceutical inventory is not expired
    • Assist MHMH leadership in coordination of routine checking of inventory for outdates; complete and maintain appropriate records and documentation in conjunction with Pharmacy Compliance, Quality, and Safety (CQS)
  • Collaborate with the Central Supply Pharmacy Team to ensure that:
    • Medication transfer paperwork is sent to billing team for end of month invoicing
    • Appropriate departments are billed for medications
    • Cost updates are processed in a timely manner
  • Coordinate onsite inventory transfers throughout the system and local hospitals
    • Utilize carousel technology and automated billing practices where appropriate
    • Maintain appropriate transfer documentation for end of month billing
    • Distribute DSCSA paperwork to sites as needed
  • Oversee sequester and barcoding process in coordination with pharmacy receivers and IS Medications Team
  • Monitor non-formulary medications in conjunction with Central Supply Pharmacy and system members
    • Submit recommendations for formulary addition, where appropriate, based on utilization
  • Serve as coordinator of bi-annual inventory for site:
    • Ensure cycle counts and floor check completion prior to inventory date
    • Review inventory for anomalies prior to submission to Central Supply Manager
    • Coordinate and conduct counts of non-automated stock areas
    • Review emergency equipment stock lists and quantities of each kit
  • Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) Optimization
    • Facilitate movement of stagnant inventory to machines with high utilization prior to expiration
    • Work in conjunction with clinical pharmacy and pharmacy leadership to recommend changes in decentralized stock patterns based on utilization
    • Change pocket sizes as appropriate based on inventory needs in cabinets/carousel
  • Facilitate onsite medication recall management
    • Assess inventory location and site impact
    • Coordinate with local leadership a plan for sequestering affected product
    • Determine local changes necessary to stock replacement product if needed
  • Manage expired medication waste:
    • Routinely review sterile product waste including IV room compounded and outsourced products
    • Evaluation of expired inventory returned from decentralized stock areas including automated dispensing cabinets and procedural areas
    • Review reverse distributor transactions to identify waste patterns and inventory optimization opportunities
  • Assist local resources with:
    • Receiving of orders from Wholesaler and Manufacturers for pharmaceuticals and related supplies
    • Putting away pharmaceuticals and supplies, rotating stock as necessary
    • Processing returns from hospital and clinic departments
    • Cycle counting inventory


Purpose:

Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist performs routine and specialized technical and clerical duties for drug distribution to patients. This individual has excellent customer service skills and is able to function independently within their scope of responsibility. The incumbent is able to demonstrate leadership skills on a day to day basis. This job builds on the responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician Certified III.

Responsibilities:

1. Answers Phones.
2. Prepares prescription and non-prescription medication and/or devices.
3. Stocks and replenishes stock locations and automated dispensing machines (ADMs) and/or robots (example: shelves, carousels, Parata).
4. Serves as a preceptor and assists with orienting and training of pharmacy department staff.
5. Communicates supply issues, problems or discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
6. Assists with workflow management in the pharmacy.
7. Performs audits.
8. Administers and distribute all new-hire training and departmental specific competencies required by department and accrediting agencies.
Inpatient and Infusion Only:
9. Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile drug products (including antineoplastic, investigational and hazardous medications) in accordance with USP chaptersandunder supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
10. Prepares or compounds non-sterile drug products (including antineoplastic, investigational and hazardous medications) in accordance with USP chaptersandunder supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
11. Utilizes closed system transfer devices to limit potential exposure of the environment to hazardous medications.
12. Follows investigational protocols in the preparation of study medications, maintains records of preparation, stability, and dispenses as required.
13. Maintains the hardware and software of the department's multiple computer systems.
Outpatient Only:
14. Electronically processes prescription orders and prepares prescriptions for verification by a pharmacist. Processes third party claims.
15. Performs in the call center and handles mail orders.
16. Purchases and controls inventory for the Ambulatory pharmacies with primary focus on Over the Counter (OTC) inventory. Responsible for annual inventory as well as daily deposits and provides back-up for pharmacy account receivables.
17. Monitors and reviews quality improvement metrics across all Ambulatory departments including Medicare Five Star ratings when applicable.
18. Provides medication preparation, benefits investigation, distribution and customer service to patients using the Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H) Pharmacy.
19. Coordinates administrative and supervisory duties of the department to include but not be limited to scheduling, payroll, and duty assignment.
Supply Chain Only:
20. Purchases pharmaceuticals in quantities sufficient to meet patient needs and reorders based on Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and 340B Drug Pricing Program (340B Program) criteria.
21. Purchases and controls inventory for the Inpatient Pharmacy. Coordinates annual inventory and assists with the management of drug shortages.
22. Maintains and audits 340B eligible transactions and 340B eligible product accumulations for accuracy of data. Keeps records of audit activity and database changes of 340B products for compliance and audits.
23. Purchases and controls inventory for the clinic practices.
24. Responsible for quarterly inventory at Central Supply Pharmacy.
25. Processes pharmacy invoices and manage interdepartmental billing.
26. Monitors and maintains processes and documentation for controlled substance compliance including ARCOS requirements.
Hematology-Oncology:
27. Maintain drug accountability records and protocols for investigational studies.
28. Provides education to support the preparation of antineoplastic, investigational and hazardous medications in accordance with USPandstandards.
29. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
•Associates degree in a health or related field, with 1 year of pharmacy experience, or the equivalent in education and experience preferred.
•Ability to work in a fast paced environment with accuracy.
•Ability to multitask and attention to detail.
•Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
•Able to function independently within their scope of responsibility.

Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
•Registered Pharmacy Technician with the NH Board of Pharmacy required.
•Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification required.
•BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire for Pharmacy Technicians in the Retail or Specialty Pharmacy. For Specialty Pharmacy if employee is esignated as a full-time remote employee working outsie of the states of NH/VT, BLS is not required.
