JOB SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Welch Cancer Center Manager, Pharmacy In Charge or Registered Pharmacist, and according to the standard procedures, compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving prescriptions from physicians or other qualified prescribers; types labels, prepares and files drug charge slips and performs various other technical duties of the pharmacy The Pharmacy Tech/Data Specialist is also responsible for facilitating medicine management issues with the appropriate SMH Patient Access departments and Welch Cancer Center personnel. Works to ensure timely and efficient service for WCC patients. This position serves as the liaison between the Welch Cancer Center and the SMH IT department in regard to EMR System management (Aria Medical Oncology) and acts as the Subject-Matter Expert on Aria Medical Oncology. #Provides technical support and training for WCC users. #In addition, the Pharmacy Tech/Data Specialist generates regular reports on meaningful use and quality measures under the supervision of the Manager.# Must be available for sick leave and PTO coverage. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Pharmacy Technician# Reviews all outpatients billing on a daily basis.# Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.# Performs other duties as assigned.# Quality of Work Performs patient charging functions. IV preparation. Ordering and inventory control. Return of goods for credit. Medicine Management Facilitation Facilitates medicine management requirements with necessary departments to ensure that the process is done in a timely, accurate and seamless manner. Troubleshoots as needed when problems arise with the medicine management process and ensures that issues are resolved in a timely. Serves as a liaison between Patient Access department and the Welch Cancer Center on prior authorization issues. Serves as a liaison between inpatient pharmacy and Welch Cancer Center pharmacy in the ordering, procurement and organization of patient care from a pharmacy perspective.# Individual Productivity/Use of Time# Responsibly completes all work procedures during the shift without sacrificing any quality of the work performed. Responds to changes in work schedule as necessary; willing to adjust personal schedule in case of real department need, such as staying late to finish daily duties, helping pharmacists complete duties, etc. Demonstrates a consistent level of performance; avoids periods of high activity and low activity. #Prioritizes the daily tasks, continually using time to departmental advantage.# Reports any incomplete assignments to ensure continuity distribution to the technician starting the next shift. #Completes work left from other shifts.# Strives to meet deadlines on special projects and daily responsibilities, requests assistance when necessary to complete duties. Always provides proper notification and advance notice of any anticipated absence. #Notifies the pharmacist and/or supervisor on duty with unavoidable changes in work schedule. Clocks in and out accurately and appropriately, is consistently on time and ready to work at the start of the shift; requires no start-up time.# Judgement and Decision-Making/Initiative# Purchases drugs in the right amount to reduce outdated medication and needless inventory and storage.# Manages inventory of medications and communicates about upcoming potential expiring medications proactively. Maintains yearly and monthly inventories and reports them appropriately to stakeholders. Always consults with the pharmacists in charge when the need arises. #Makes no impulsive or hasty decisions when a pharmacist#s consultation is required.# Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives and choose the appropriate course of action.# Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.# Knowledge of Job Has full knowledge of the Pyxis system as it pertains to the specific pharmacy technician Pyxis duties, including stocking the Pyxis medication-dispensing unit.# Maintains a complete knowledge of pharmaceutical prices and regularly informs pharmacy manager of any dramatic changes in item costs.# Has full knowledge of the pharmacy computer system that pertains to the technician#s duties.# Interpersonal Relations/Team Work# Works at maintaining a good working rapport with all patient care personnel and other departments that require frequent interaction (Materials Management, Information Systems, and Financial Services) with special emphasis on nursing staff. Maintains a cooperative relationship with all local retail pharmacies in regards to picking up non-formulary items. Communicates with nursing staff in a positive and informative manner. #Takes time to carefully explain issues of concern involving medication delivery, preparation and distribution so as to allow for no misunderstanding.# Demonstrates a cooperative working relationship with all members of the pharmacy staff. Refers questions on medications to the pharmacist on duty.# Reports and works to resolve inventory issues with respective stakeholders, ex. Materials management or third party suppliers, such as McKesson. Promotes a team spirit and mentors peers when appropriate (or directed by immediate supervisor). # POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education / Experience / License and Certifications High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required. Certified Pharmacy Technician with Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy, required. Completion of Aseptic Technique, Hazardous Medication and Chemotherapy Annual Competencies Additional Skills Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing# Good interpersonal skills needed to work with staff and physicians Strong written and verbal skills# Basic computer knowledge Hand/eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills Able to prioritize multiple details simultaneously, able to troubleshoot problems, analytical, interpretive skills Requires higher level of short- and long-term mental faculties accompanied by long- and short-term memory In accordance with Sheridan Memorial Hospital#s (SMH) duty to maintain a safe work environment for staff, patients and visitors, and to ensure the facility remains in compliance with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation, COVID-19 vaccinations or an approved medical or religious exemption is required in accordance with established CMS requirements.
