Overview POSITION SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Resident position is a one year paid position. Applicants are selected by the Residency Match program established by American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). The Pharmacy Resident reviews prescriptions, obtains clarifications, analyzes drug therapy and regularly consults with medical staff, nursing personnel and others in order to coordinate delivery of high quality pharmaceutical services to Medical Center patients. Strives to meet goals and objectives established by ASHP for PGY1 Pharmacy Residents. In addition, the Pharmacy Resident is responsible for compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established procedures and professional pharmacy practice. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy Licensure/Certifications: Current state license as a Pharmacy Technician Current state license as a Registered Pharmacist within 90-days of hire date PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: 2 Hospital Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) Other skills/knowledge: Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and various other Medical Center personnel when explaining medication use and gathering and exchanging other medication information. Analytical skills necessary in order to determine drug appropriateness and evaluate drug interactions. The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served. Completes pharmacy resident job training and orientation to become familiar with department and Medical Center policies, procedures and protocols necessary to assist in the safe preparation and administration of medications and drugs to Medical Center patients.
