Job Description As a Pharmacy Resident – Year One, you will function as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide quality patient care. To help achieve our mission, you will oversee all department activities regarding the ordering, preparation and dispensing of pharmaceutical preparations. Following all federal, state and local laws, in addition to remaining compliant with the requirements of the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, is of vital importance. Your ability to provide Pharmaceutical Care while ensuring that safe, appropriate and cost-effective therapies are made available for patients, according to established policies, procedures and protocols, is required. Providing education and drug information to practitioners and patients by utilizing effective communication skills is expected. Job Responsibilities Establishes a collaborative working relationship with physicians and other healthcare providers. Functions effectively as a member of the healthcare team. Uses knowledge of interpersonal skills to effectively manage working relationships. Weighs, measures and prepares medication products by utilizing the appropriate tools and equipment. Interprets medication orders and accurately transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles. Maintains accurate and complete patient medication profiles. Accurately compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals including sterile, chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law. Takes ownership for daily department operations in the absence of a manager/supervisor when needed. Displays initiative in preventing, identifying and resolving Pharmacy related patient care problems. Designs, recommends, monitors and evaluates patient specific therapeutic regimens that incorporate the principles of evidence based medicine. Develops proficiency in Information Systems including the ability to generate reports. Showcases knowledge on all clinical modules to provide appropriate patient care. Delivers effective education and training programs while using effective techniques in all educational activities. Provides service education to physicians, nurses and other practitioners. Provides instruction to Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Pharmacy Residents and Pharmacists. Communicates clearly when speaking or writing. Organizes all written or oral communication in a logical manner. Addresses all communication at the level appropriate for the audience. Exercises skill in the operation of audiovisual equipment. Provides concise, applicable, comprehensive and timely responses to requests for drug information from patients, healthcare providers and the community.
