The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy department. In addition, the Pharmacy Operations Manager provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist as needed. This position will assist the Director of Pharmacy to a ssure all legal, regulatory and accrediting requirements are maintained at the best demonstrated practice. Maintain a professional presence throughout the hospital. Assure pharmacy services and activities are carried out to meet goals and standards of Steward Health Care and the client/hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Supervise pharmacists and pharmacy supportive personnel

+ Maintain schedules for staff

+ Oversee training for central pharmacists, new hires and pharmacist shift responsibilities

+ Arrange/conduct hospital and pharmacy orientation for new hires within 60 days

+ Develop and implement a training and competency program for all staff and maintain records of those completed competencies

+ Participate in the hospital P&T committee as directed by the Director of Pharmacy

+ Participate in hospital committee meetings necessary to enhance practice and patient care

+ Participate and direct pharmacy quality activities

+ Contribute to the medication safety program through medication incident reviews, proactive reporting, participating in committee presentations and action planning

+ Establishing standards and training for sterile product preparation in compliance with USP 795/797/800 non-sterile and sterile preparation standards, including annual review of master formulation records

+ Participates in precepting residents during administration rotations and actively contributes to project development and oversight

+ Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and quality improvement programs

+ Maintains all required training and education per department requirements.

+ Assist in the development and maintenance of information systems and other technology applications within the Pharmacy

+ Work with technician purchaser in the procurement of medications and supplies in accordance with GPO bids and Steward Health Care best demonstrated practices

+ Assure adequate control and documentation of controlled substances

+ Includes Power of Attorney to order Schedule II-IV drugs

+ Meet or exceed all Accreditation Bodies (TJC, DNV, CMS, BOP) standards related to pharmacy

+ Use best practices in formulary and cost control

+ Participate in the process for patient and department charges, and that they are accurately and timely posted to accounts

+ Supervise all drug storage areas in accordance with legal and best demonstrated practice

+ Oversee preparation and delivery of medication throughout the hospital

+ Achieve satisfactory scores on operations assessments/audits (TJC, Regulatory, Accreditation, BOP, etc)

+ Assist the Director with the pharmacy budget and all aspects related to the financial program.

+ Reconcile financial information and communicate on a timely basis

+ Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control. Complies with all applicable state, local and federal regulations.

+ In case of a prolonged absence of the Director of Pharmacy will serve as the Pharmacist-In-Charge

+ Perform as staff pharmacist as needed

SECONDARY POSITION ROLES:

+ Maintains safety-integrity-professionalism of pharmacy at all times

+ Provide in-services to staff and hospital professional staff

+ Monitor acquisition and renewal of all pharmacy licenses and permits and staff licenses

+ Supervise monthly medication area inspections and have supporting documentation

+ Conducts periodic staff meetings

+ Perform special projects as requested

+ Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Is conscientious in regard to personal hygiene.

+ Treats patients and families with respect and dignity and assures confidentiality of patient records

+ Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments

+ Assists in the resolution of problems or concerns while being a supportive team member

+ Consistently strives to promote great customer service in all aspects of the job

+ Perform MUE and report results in committee meetings

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

+ Education : Graduate of college of Pharmacy accredited by ACPE or equivalent

+ Experience : At least 5 years hospital pharmacy experience

+ Certification/Licensure : Current license to practice Pharmacy in state and maintains all required CE

+ Software/Hardware : Preferred: Pyxis, Meditech, Microsoft Office
