Responsibilities:
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of pharmacy and coordinates workflow of the pharmacy department. Works as staff when needed and handles technical problems with computers, scanners, pyxis and phones.
  • Ensures compliance with all Louisiana Board of Pharmacy, TJC, CMS, DEA and FDA standards.
  • Ensures all regulatory requirements are met and inspections are completed. Includes USP 797 and USP 800 standards, IV certification training, CE, and temperature logs.
  • Assists in overseeing procurement, receiving, billing functions and inventory management. Checks in narcotic orders and receives orders electronically when needed.
  • Works with the buyer to manage drug shortages. Works with the DOP and Clinical Manager to communicate this information to staff.
  • Provides/Oversees pharmacy orientation and training for all pharmacy employees.
  • Supervises and assists pharmacy technicians and other support staff effectively.
  • Manages Facility Scheduler to provide oversight of staff scheduling.
  • Ensures all policies and procedures are followed by pharmacy staff.
  • Assists IT with Maintaining/updating drug files in pharmacy computer system. Coordinate and serve as liaison for pharmacy system updates including COE, CPOE and Meditech.
  • Participate in maintaining adequate inventory levels. Obtain medication based on PAR levels and in conjunction with formulary initiatives.
  • Work with DOP and Clinical Manager in maintaining department formulary initiatives and communicate with appropriate professional staff members concerning formulary clinical review processes.
  • Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and promotes rational drug therapy selection
  • Support participation in daily multidisciplinary and bedside rounds. (may need to attend)
  • Train and participate with Code Teams as assigned. Obtain and maintain BLS-ACLS or PALS current certification as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate controlled substance records. Work with the Pharmacy Director to identify and develop processes to meet or exceed all controlled substance diversion prevention and monitoring standards. .
  • Support and participate in the goals of the organization's quality improvement, risk management and patient safety program.
  • Develop and document staff competency on an ongoing basis and develop improvement plans when deficiencies are identified.
  • Participate as preceptor for technician and pharmacy students and/or residents as it relates to pharmacy services. Responsible for engaging and mentoring student/resident as required.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring of pharmacy employees.
  • Assists in preparation and conducting annual performance evaluations for pharmacy staff.
  • Able to modify job duties and responsibilities since these may change based on organizational or departmental needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Pharmacy .
Qualifications
  • BS or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy, PharmD preferred
  • Current Pharmacist license in good standing
  • Minimum 3 years in hospital pharmacy practice or equivalent experience.
  • ACLS Certification preferred
  • BCPS Certification in Pharmacotherapy preferred
  • Post-graduate residency preferred
  • Hospital Pharmacy Management experience is preferred
