Job Description

Job Summary

Manages the activities of professional, technical and support staff who perform tasks related to the ordering, compounding, dispensing, use, preparation, storing, distribution and control of drugs and other pharmaceutical products. Coordinate Human Resource activities. Ensures that the hospital formulary is followed to meet the needs of patients. Provides clinical consultation and expertise in support of patient assessment and care processes. Works with multiple medication automation systems. Strong knowledge of pharmacy drug distribution systems, financial management, pharmaceutical inventory control systems, drug information system, quality assurance methods, regulatory requirements and clinical practice.

Essential Functions

* Manages the activities of professional, technical and support staff who are engaged in ordering, compounding, dispensing, preparing, storing, using and distributing (and the control of) drugs and other pharmaceutical products.
* Ensures that the hospital formulary is followed, as appropriate, to meet the therapeutic needs of patients; evaluates and makes recommendations on proposed additions or deletions to the hospital's drug formulary.
* In collaboration with IS personnel, develops, implements, improves and maintains pharmacy computer systems.
* Oversees, prepares and updates policies and procedures affecting the Pharmacy as assigned.

* Facilitates the training and continuing education of staff members. Provides direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Establishes work standards. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with departmental policies and organization philosophy.

* Provides clinical consultation and expertise in support of patient assessment and care processes. Consults on drug therapy, drug regimen reviews, and drug utilization reviews. Consults on research projects and other matters related to pharmacology.

* Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required continuous training and education, including department and Spectrum Health specific requirements on a timely basis.

* Anticipates customer needs and manages the provision of services to all customers, including patients, physicians, hospital departments and staff. Ensures that staff responds to requests for services, information, records, and data on a timely basis. Researches and resolves problems.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy -Required
* Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 5+ years of related hospital pharmacy practice or post-graduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency experience
* LIC-Clinical Pharmacist - STATE_MI State of Michigan
* LIC-Pharmacist Controlled Substance - STATE_MI State of Michigan
