Job Description/Summary: Under general direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Pharmacy is accountable for administrative/management, operational, and clinical activities at UCSF Benioff Children#s Hospital Oakland (BCH-Oakland). #This responsibility will encompass all aspects of operations, budgeting, planning, organization, staffing, and evaluation, as well as the supervision of significant number of staff and clinical pharmacists. Position Requirements: Minimum Education: # Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D) or equivalent training required. Post graduate training In Pharmacy Practice or Hospital Administration, or equivalent experience required. Additional advanced degrees (i.e., M.B.A., MPH, or MHA) preferred. Minimum Experience:# Minimum of seven years of experience as a licensed pharmacist in a Medical Center/Hospital Pharmacy. Minimum of five years management experience or demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills in a Medical Center pharmacy or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Management experience as a director or assistant director level License Required: Registered Pharmacist in the State of California Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:# Advanced knowledge and applied background in Pharmacy practice. Knowledge of industry best practices and technology to optimize the use of medication to treat patients. Stays updated on pharmacy regulations, drug products, and developments in research and design. Advanced knowledge of relevant Pharmacy Department and Hospital policies and protocols including medicine storage, safety, and patient privacy and treatment. Knowledge of all pharmacy federal and state laws and regulations. Ability to apply policy knowledge to improve workflow systems and protocols. Skills in employee development to grow assigned manager and supervisor leadership skills. Strategic abilities to collaborate with senior management on setting objectives. Proven budgeting and financial management skills. Proven ability to set goals and manage the implementation process for initiatives. Ability to cope with rapid change and maintain flexibility in an ambiguous environment. Knowledge of organizational structure and critical thinking skills to perform gap analysis and identify improvements in workflow. Demonstrated skills to organize, simplify and increase efficiency of workflows and protocols while maintaining standards and compliance. Strong ability to listen actively, consider all points of view with an open mind, soliciting and incorporating ideas when appropriate.Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with peers, patients, senior management, assigned staff and coordinate Pharmacy activities across functions. Ability to work collaboratively and promote others, soliciting and incorporating their ideas when appropriate. Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in clinical documentation applications and pharmacy database technology and train others to effectively use applications. Ability to use quality tools to perform assessments and analysis. Knowledge of available information technology software in the pharmaceutical field. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to interface with a variety of personnel, including physicians, nursing staff, other healthcare providers, pharmaceutical manufacturer representatives, wholesalers, and other administrators. Compounding experience and knowledge in USP 797 and USP 800 regulations. Technical Knowledge:# Prior experience with Electronic Medical Records (EPIC preferred) Experience in the use of robotics and technology in drug delivery systems. Physical Requirements: Sit: Up to 6 hours/day Stand/Walk: Up to 6 hours Bend/Stoop: Up to 3 hours Reach: Up to 6 hours Rep Use of UE/Grasp: Up to 6 hrs Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment This job requires the ability to hear alarms clients and/or instruction.
