JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting with decision making, program planning, and implementation of clinical care delivery systems which promotes safety and well-being of all patients within the system. Demonstrates sound financial knowledge and management. Facilitates departmental organization and management to achieve optimal and appropriate resource utilization. Builds and maintains strategic relationships. Builds and maintains high performing clinical care delivery teams. Manages conflict and competing imperatives. Builds customer loyalty among physicians, employees and community. Possesses requisite level of technical and professional knowledge in clinical area of expertise including exceptional leadership skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Duties

  • Follows risk management policies/procedures. Demonstrates adherence to P&P by ensuring all staff attend required educational offerings. Ensures staff compliance with plan through practice. Reviews, follows-up and reports incidents according to plan. Notifies Risk Manager of any potential or real risk. Maintains confidentiality regarding risk management issues.
  • Maintains appropriate quality control programs. Monitors quality control indicators and reports trends and variations.
  • Initiates actions for negative variances. Facilitates EOC rounds and compliance with safe environment guidelines.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Plan: Plans prior to action - thinks through impact. Monitors and measures impact from changes made. Reviews key processes and identifies areas for improvement. Develops plans for improvements. Works with teams
  • Participates in the implementation of proposed solutions. Utilizes hospital chosen format of PICA for guidance. Reports all quality initiatives according to hospital reporting and communication plan.
  • Maintains competency of staff. Conducts bimonthly staff meetings to provide ongoing communication to staff and educational offerings.
  • Ensures staff participation in educational offerings. Ensures appropriate orientation / competency assessment on ongoing basis for all staff members. Ensures documentation of educational compliance. Promotes professional growth of staff.
  • Maintains position controls. Works with administrator to maintain approved position controls. Maintains appropriate staffing schedules/plans. Submits written schedules according to P&P Schedules are complete according to skill mix and approved FTE(s). Carries out schedule changes according to P&P. Holds staff accountable for weekend commitments. Employs progressive discipline plan for absenteeism Maintains appropriateness of payroll. Validates and approves all payroll. Reviews bi-weekly reports for accuracy and works with finance to correct when necessary.
  • Investigates and responds to complaints. Promptly and fully investigates and responds to complaints from patients, visitors, physicians, staff. Ensures action or appropriate referral with follow up for all complaints.
  • Patient Care Delivery System: Reviews reports daily to assess patient needs. Regularly makes rounds to the patient care areas to access medication needs of patients and staff. Provides constant feedback to staff about performance. Reviews patient charges daily. Reviews a sampling of medication orders to evaluate staff compliance with order entry. Personally evaluates evening and night shift. Maintains quality control programs especially geared toward medication safety. Informs administrator of issues or concerns when appropriate. Provides Resources for Care Delivery Functions as a resource to all staff and other depts. Establishes a timely medication delivery system. Provide care utilizing pharmacy process. Delegates responsibilities based on staff qualification. Possesses knowledge, experience and is competent to give pharmaceutical care to patients served. Provides policies, and procedures for area.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services/education: Participates in all departmental and hospital wide education offerings, mandatory for position. Attends unit/departmental staff meetings. Continuing Education: Participates in CEUs and utilizes information in areas of practice. Annual Education: Completes annual requirements by established timelines without the requirement of management follow-up.

Qualifications :

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Adheres to scheduling requests of the department (Works weekends, no "special days off", no exceptions, unless in school).
  • Adheres to the Customer Service Standards of Texas Regional Medical Center while representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department and complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Utilizes computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Completes annual education requirements and maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean and wears identification while on duty.
  • Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion and has not missed any mandatory in-services.
  • Attends staff meetings annually, is responsible for information presented at monthly staff meetings that he/she is unable to attend.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: 5 year Bachelor degree required, Post Graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years in clinical and management experience.
  • Professional Requirement: TX State Pharmacy License.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Additional languages preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Basic computer knowledge required.
