The Pharmacy Coordinator is a pharmacist with specific training, knowledge and skills who coordinates the Pharmacy Department's regulatory and performance improvement activities. He/she is responsible to the Director of Pharmacy for the maintenance and evaluation of these activities.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Pharmacy Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

* Recognizes departmental needs and develops and maintains programs that address both the orientation of new Pharmacy staff and the continuing educational needs of the entire Pharmacy staff.
* Monitors all diversion activities and coordinates periodic training for all levels of staff across the medical center.
* Maintains working knowledge of regulatory requirements of sterile compounding areas and addresses gaps in those requirements to assure full compliance with USP 797 and USP 800.
* Coordinates the appropriate teaching of pharmacist essential functions, including the handling of drug products, the reviewing and dispensing of medication orders and clarification of potential problems, and aseptic technique in sterile compounding.
* Develops and coordinates Pharmacy performance improvement initiatives, including those designed to measure and improve the timely, safe and accurate preparation and dispensing of medication, and appropriate monitoring of drug therapy.
* Coordinates all activities of the Pharmacy Department in accordance with applicable regulations, accreditation standards, certification and licensing requirements (State, Federal, TJC, NJDOH, NJ Board of Pharmacy).
* Assists with ensuring compliance in accordance with all applicable regulations.
* Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
* Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

* Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy, or equivalent, with a minimum of a BS degree in Pharmacy.
* Minimum of 3 to 5 years of pharmacist experience.
* A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience with staff development and performance improvement.
* Extensive knowledge of staff development processes, including planning, design and implementation of both orientation and staff development programs.
* Extensive knowledge of performance improvement processes, including planning, program structure, program development, indicator selection, implementation strategies, data collection, data analysis, and reporting.
* Working knowledge of Excel software, including statistical and graphical capabilities for use in reporting activities.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

* Master's degree.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

* Registered Pharmacist License.
