Job Description:

The resident is a participant in a system training program. The purpose of the residency is to develop knowledge and skills needed to provide pharmaceutical care including the provision of rational pharmacotherapy and the delivery of appropriate product related services to the patients of Intermountain Healthcare. This second year residency builds upon the post-graduate year one residency graduates' competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services to prepare residents who can assume high level specialized leadership responsibilities. Areas of competence emphasized during the program include advanced clinical pharmacy services, safe and effective medication-use systems, quality assurance, the management of human resources, the management of financial resources, use of technology, and advanced leadership.

The Intermountain Healthcare residency program is an organized, directed, accredited program that builds upon knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities gained from an accredited professional pharmacy degree program. Intermountain's second year pharmacy residency program enhances general competencies in managing medication-use systems and supports optimal medication therapy outcomes for patients. Residents are expected to learn to provide comprehensive pharmacy services to ensure smooth consistent operation in accordance with governmental regulatory agencies, and organizational guidelines, policies and procedures. This valuable and rewarding residency experience promotes your knowledge base and is instrumental in developing confidence in pharmacology practice.

These are full-time, temporary, one year benefited positions which will provide training in organ transplant, infectious diseases, pediatric, Ambulatory Care, critical care, drug information, practice management and drug policy development.


This individual will function as a licensed pharmacist, and as such will have the responsibility of supervising pharmacy interns and pharmacy technicians, and occasionally undergraduate pharmacy students through the professional experience program.

The PGY2 Solid Organ Transplant residency program based at Intermountain Medical Center provides training in kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, and lung transplantation. Pediatric abdominal and heart transplant experiences are also available. The focus of our program is to develop residents into highly skilled pharmacists fully integrated within the interdisciplinary solid organ transplant team.

The PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency program is focused on providing a rigorous foundation in ID pharmacotherapy and antimicrobial stewardship, with unique experiences in pediatrics, home health and telehealth ID. Residents will develop the skills necessary to practice as independent infectious diseases pharmacology specialists, who possess the skills necessary to establish a variety of infectious diseases services in any health-system.

The PGY2 Pediatric pharmacy residency based at Primary Children’s Hospital prepares residents to become an integral member of the healthcare team caring for children as the medication therapy expert, as part of Intermountain Healthcare's Pharmacy Residency Program.

The PGY2 Ambulatory Care residency program provides residents experiences in a variety of ambulatory care settings and equips them with the skills to be leaders in a growing area of pharmacy practice. Residents gain invaluable experience in program development by implementing and operating a new clinical pharmacy service in an ambulatory care setting. Residents develop advanced skills in patient care, interprofessional practice, education, and research through a comprehensive rotation curriculum.

The PGY2 Critical Care pharmacy residency based at Intermountain Medical Center is an ASHP-accredited program focused on developing pharmacy leaders who possess the skills necessary to practice as independent critical care pharmacy specialists.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy (degree will be verified).
  • Current license as a pharmacist by state in which one practices.

  • Controlled substance license.

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • - and -
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • - and -
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.

  • Completion certificate for PGY1 residency.
