Overview

Functions as a Pharmacist as defined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners. Responsible for providing all aspects of pharmaceutical care, including clinical and distributive tasks, for patients served within UnityPoint Health - Des Moines locations. Acts as a member of the health care team to help patients and clinic staff achieve clinical outcomes and monitor progress toward common goals. Performs assignments and projects as directed by the Pharmacy Management Team. Supervises Pharmacy technicians in the absence of formal departmental leadership.

Responsibilities

* Ensures the appropriate preparation and dispersal of medications in accordance with facility, state, and national laws and regulations
* Prioritizes the importance of preventing errors, accidents, and infections within the workplace and reports potential or actual concerns immediately
* Verifies the accuracy of medication stock in automated dispensing cabinets
* Inspects pharmaceutical supplies, storage, and utilization on assigned patient care areas
* Accountable for quality improvement measures and patient safety initiatives, particularly as they relate to medications and medication use evaluation (MUE) activities
* Demonstrates a commitment to the improvement of patient care, customer satisfaction, and team member performance

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education:

* B.S. Pharmacy with equivalent clinical experience
* Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) preferred
* Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency desirable

Experience:

* Must be able to proficiently read, write and speak English
* Proficiency in navigating the electronic medical record
* One or more years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

* Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Iowa Pharmacist license in good standing or eligible for licensure
* Must attain a license to practice Pharmacy in Iowa within six months of employment. Must be directly supervised by a licensed pharmacist until Iowa Pharmacist license is obtained
* Must maintain current license to practice pharmacy in Iowa and be in good standing with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners
* Board Certification desirable
