* Job Summary
* Under general supervision, is responsible for interpretation of physician's orders, review of patient therapy, dispensing of appropriate ordered medications and performs all operational duties necessary within the inpatient and satellite services. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards

* Minimum Qualifications
* CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO AN APPROPRIATE COMBINATION OF EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.

* Education/Training
* Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. or Foreign Pharmacy Equivalent Certification approved by NABP.

* Experience
* At least one year as a Pharmacist in a hospital setting preferred.

* License/Certification/Registration
* Current D.C. license as a Pharmacist.

* Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Good communication skills; ability to provide direction to others; ability to work under stress. Ability to perform computerized procedures. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups; geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and neonate. Must demonstrate knowledge of the relationship between age and the proper selection of drugs and drug pharmacokinetics in various age groups. Annual performance evaluations will measure the level of knowledge and skills maintained through the use of criteria based job standards. Employees must maintain a satisfactory level of knowledge and skills to continue employment.

* Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Interprets medication order for appropriateness of therapy, drug, route, frequency and duration. Consults with prescriber when clarification is required.

* Reviews patient medication profile for possible drug reactions, duplication of orders and contraindications and consults with prescriber when clarification is required.

* Enters patient's medication order in response to the standardized Pharmacy computer program.

* Prepares/labels/reviews finished preparations and then dispenses preparations for inpatient and outpatient use.

* Participates in clinical and quality improvement activities within the department and with medical and nursing staff.

* Documents interventions using Pharmacy documentation system provided.

* Compounds/supervises the compounding of medication when necessary according to established procedure.

* Utilizes computerized controlled drug system in the preparation and distribution of Scheduled drugs and complies with all associated record keeping and inventory processes as required by the DEA.

* Provides supervision and guidance to supportive personnel in the Pharmacy Department.

* Complies with P&T regulations in terms of non-formulary drugs, procedures, and therapeutic interchanges.

* Demonstrates on a consistent basis, C2C behaviors which comprise and maintains open and appropriate communications and an atmosphere of caring, concern, respect and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and coworkers.

* Demonstrates excellence in internal and external customer service ability in the areas of communication and service (i.e. answering the telephone after 3 rings and responding to issues in a timely manner).
