Compound and dispense prescribed drugs in a healthcare facility environment. Responsible for transferring prescriptions, handling incoming physician calls, logging data into the computer, and Drug Utilization Review. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Perform a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

+ Monitor medication therapy, intervene, recommend, prescribes medication and laboratory tests according to prescriptive protocols or physician request, and/or educates where necessary.

+ Act as a resource for information relating to medications and their actions, administration, adverse effects, contraindications, dosage recommendations, and alternative therapies.

+ Process orders and prescriptions via computer order entry and handles/selects medications efficiently and accurately.

+ Maintain records according to the policies of the institution, the rules and regulations of the State of Washington, and the rules and regulations of the United States.

+ Follow all hospital policies and procedures related to their employment, as well as all pharmacy specific policies and procedures.

+ Oversee, check, and verify work performed by technicians.

+ Answer the pharmacy phones, and greet people at the door(s) of the pharmacy and throughout the hospital in a courteous and professional manner.

+ Function as a team member and a responsible, dependable employee, including attendance.

+ Perform other related work as required.

Education:

+ Bachelor's in Science in Pharmacy or greater.

Licenses/Certificates/Permits:

+ Current Washington State Board of Pharmacy license to practice pharmacy.

Experience:

+ Hospital pharmacy experience is preferred. Approximately two years are required to become proficient in the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

+ Think and act independently and responsibly.

+ Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the practice of hospital inpatient and outpatient pharmacy.

+ Perform pharmaceutical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, unit conversions, dosage calculations, weight calculations, percentages, ratios, and other calculations as required.

+ Communicate effectively in person, on the phone and in writing. Ability to prioritize tasks, plan projects, and meet deadlines.

+ Operate office equipment, including computer terminals, personal computers (Microsoft Word, etc.), printers, calculators, typewriters, photocopying machines, cash registers and other equipment as required.

+ Handle receipt and disposition of money accurately.
