:

Ensures the safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals through their proper storage, handling, evaluation, preparation, compounding, labeling and dispensing in conjunction with state and federal regulations and departmental policies. Maintains proper records, documentation and provides complete communication as appropriate. Follows department guidelines with regard to clinical interventions and provides drug information as required and/or requested. Supervises pharmacy technicians and maintains efficient workflow of the area they are working in. Requires competency in providing direct patient care to adult, geriatric, neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, oncologic and psychiatric patients depending on work site.

Work Hours/Shift:

* Salaried 40hrs per week, 7 nights on 7 nights off-- 10hr shifts, work 70hrs per two week pay period, get paid for 80!

You Will Be Responsible For:

* Exceptional Patient Care: Prepares, dispenses, and supervises the preparation of all medications and IVs for patient use in the hospital in conjunction with state and federal regulations and department policies. Ensures these same medications are delivered to the right patient in the most efficient manner.

* Excellent Communicator: Advises other health care professionals on drug interactions, incompatibilities, side effects, and proper administration of medications. Effectively communicates with staff at all levels.

* Strong Educator: Supervises non-pharmacist personnel by assigning duties, checking all orders, maintaining efficient workflow, and checking IVs and other medications prepared by technicians.

* Technical Familiarity: Assesses need for non-formulary items ordered according to department policy, and initiates contact with prescribing physician for substitute. Verifies physicians' orders for proper dose, regimen, allergies, potential drug-drug interactions/incompatibilities, adverse drug reactions and monitors lab data on all patients before dispensing medication. Utilizes appropriate communication log to notify physician/nurse of potential problem. Verifies all narcotic orders are received, maintains perpetual inventory log, performs weekly C-II inventory and monthly controlled drug inventory and ensures all forms are completed and filed appropriately

* Active Teamwork: Active participant in department programs and projects. Works with department leadership to provide input to continually improve department operations.

Requirements:

* B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (preferred)

* Connecticut Pharmacists License

* Board Certification preferred

* PGY1 Residency training preferred
