GENERAL SUMMARY Works under the direction and supervision of the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Business Manager. The Pharmacy Technician#s primary job function is to prepare and distribute medications. Performs quality control, routine maintenance and other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required Completion of a board approved Pharmacy Technician training program or National Certification required Licensure: Registration with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy required Pursuant to KRS 315.135 Experience: Pharmacy Technician training program or certification or prior technician work experience required. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to maintain a customer service orientation to professionals, patients, and hospital employees. Willingness to work under direct and indirect supervision. Ability to work well as a team member. Accuracy in following directions. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Finger dexterity required to manipulate unit dose medications and syringes in an aseptic manner. Requires ability to enter information into a computer. Essential Physical Requirements: Requires standing and/or moving/pulling carts throughout the hospital departments up to 75% of the day. Requires lifting up to 30 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. or less frequently. Essential Mental Requirements: Analytical skills to sort medications and pharmaceutical supplies, make calculations, and maintain records. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and generic/brand names of drugs desirable. Attention to detail and ability to follow directions required. Must be able to read, write and communicate in an effective manner. Essential Sensory Requirements: Sufficient vision to perform duties. Exposure to Hazards: Tasks involve very low exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Minor risk to hazardous chemicals (acids, etc.)/biological/and chemotherapeutic agents exist. Specific activities may change from time to time. # ## Profiles physician orders in computer system for pharmacist review. Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service, answer telephone inquiries; takes messages when necessary or directs inquiry to the appropriate person. Responsible for general cleanliness of work area/department. Ability to recognize narcotic discrepancies and perform audits as necessary. Delivers medications to Meds to Beds patients (in Main Campus) Enters patient charges/credits into computer profile system. Checks incoming orders of medications and pharmacy supplies against purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness. Reviews patient medication profile to identify medications available through Patient Assistance. Contacts drug manufacturer for any application forms needed and/or enrolling patients for various programs over the phone/internet. Obtains necessary income documentation from patients for various programs. Completes applications and obtains prescriptions for each manufacturer#s applications. May coordinate with physician regarding and substitutions and obtains signed applications/prescriptions. Educates patient on his/her responsibility for re-ordering prescriptions. Communicates with Purchasing Agent regarding stock levels and items needed to assure adequate inventory. Assures stock rotation and placement of items in appropriate storage areas.
