Position Summary

Responsible for leading the daily work assignments performed in the Nutrition Services department including food preparation and delivery, catering, sanitation and stocking. This is a working position and requires the ability to train and orient new staff. Responsible for following Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Safe Handling Guidelines regarding food safety and sanitation. Will provide excellent customer services when working with patients, visitors and other staff members. The Nutrition Svcs Lead may perform work in one or more of the following areas: Barista Cashiering Catering Dishwashing Floor Stock Food Preparation Meal Assembly and Service Meal Delivery Sanitation Tray Collection

Minimum Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED, preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Two to four year of previous food service or healthcare experience; equivalent education and experience may be considered

  • Strong communication skills; ability to read, write and speak English

  • Basic computer skills

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

  • Prepare and serve food for hospital patients, employees, physicians and guests. *

  • Prepares grill items and serves on various stations in cafeteria. *

  • Prepares cold food items for patient areas as described in standards. *

  • Maintain adequate supply of items required for salad bar, patient and unit stocking. *

  • Prepares coffee and specialty beverages to customer’s specifications. *

  • Demonstrates ability to operate commercial food preparation equipment. *

  • Maintain quality product freshness as assured by proper label dating and rotation. *

  • Practices proper portion control on a consistent basis. *

  • Stock work area and tray line. *

  • Completes all duties of specific food production area. *

  • Treats all customers with respect and exhibits good customer service skills. *

  • Prioritize assisting customers above all other duties. *

  • Serve patients and customers in pleasant and professional manner. *

  • Questions and complaints are responded to in a timely manner. *

  • Problem, complaint, or question that a Nutrition Svcs Lead cannot answer will be brought to the Supervisor’s attention. *

  • Follows tray delivery protocol when visiting a patient’s room, including patient identification checks. *

  • Organize tray deliveries to minimize time required for each trip. *

  • Assist patients in the setting of trays by presenting food so that items can be easily accessed by patient or asks for assistance from the nursing staff for the patient. *

  • Communicates special needs to appropriate staff to insure patient needs are met. *

  • Ensures that customers are charged the correct price, receive proper change and receive a receipt. *

  • Cashier handling and reports are accurate with no drawer discrepancies per policy. *

  • Provides appropriate par level per unit requisition and posts daily amount into computrition. *

  • Follows uniform and dress code policy. *

  • May be responsible for delivering catering events and set-up sheets to different departments on a daily basis. *

  • May take over duties of turning in and replenishing Weekend and Holiday Cash bags and receipts to hospital cashier.

  • Assist in the tray line staff in the proper sanitization of patient and dining room dishes. *

  • Retrieves dirty trays from soiled utility rooms on the floors, replacing with a clean rack, cleans the racks. *

  • Sorts food waste via recycling, compost or garbage. *

  • Regularly delimes dish machine and dish room, bus track and floors are clean. *

  • Sanitizes utensils and equipment. *

  • Stocks, cleans and maintains a sanitary environment in each nourishment station. *

  • Follows proper food handling procedures by checking for appropriate food temperatures. *

  • Puts away the dry staples, disposables, frozen and refrigerated groceries in their appropriate storage areas. *

  • Ensures the use of FIFO rotation system and properly labels and dates all items per policy. *

  • Ensures that items are well organized and accessible. *

  • Assures proper cleaning and sanitization of assigned area. *

  • Follows all department and hospital infection control and safety policies. *

  • Assigns daily work assignments and delegates as necessary. *

  • Responsible for opening and closing the department. *

  • Oversees schedule and attendance. *

  • Maintains quality service. *

  • Assures effective daily operation of the department. *

  • Responsible for managing all Nutrition Services staff in their area. *

  • May participate in the hiring and selections process.

  • Will provide feedback to supervisor or manager regarding performance and/or correction actions. *

  • Able to perform, demonstrate and train staff on processes, procedures and equipment. *

  • Provides coaching and mentoring to Nutrition Services staff. *

  • Establishes effective working relationships with peers. *

  • Ability to communicate effectively with leaders and staff regarding issues within the department that require follow-up. *

  • Able to problem solve with customers, employees or equipment that is malfunctioning. *

  • Participates in departmental and cafeteria meetings. *

  • Recommends departmental improvements and staff satisfaction ideas. *

  • Responsible for checking the order list to replenish for needed supplies. *

  • Must be able to substitute in other stations when required (i.e. cashier, dish room, salad bar, etc.). *

  • Light Work - exert/lift up to 20 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently)
