Role Purpose:

Leads the development and execution of Global Supply Management (GSM) Strategic Sourcing strategies, policies, tactics and objectives for business specific commodities that align and are linked with the business units, commercial, supply chain and manufacturing strategies. Involves the overall planning, implementation, and optimization of all activities and support required for the buying and delivery of products and services, from material acquisition through delivery. Primary areas include procurement and contracting, supply management, inventory management, logistics operations, supplier diversity, transportation and distribution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and/or assists with Strategic Sourcing plans and objectives (short & long based on forecasts of future demand and taking into account economic and currency trends and conditions that affect GSM, the business, and the global commodity sourced.
  • Works with the Business, GSSM, and Buyers on assigned global commodities to prepare and solicit competitive bids, quotations, and proposals with pertinent specifications, terms and conditions.
  • Develops and reviews specifications, statements of work, performance terms and accept/reject criteria.
  • Conducts negotiations with potential and/or current major suppliers to obtain maximum value.
  • Leads the development and communication of global supply intelligence for assigned commodities.
  • Owns the Supplier Relationship Management process for the assigned commodities.
  • Develops and cultivates effective relationships with suppliers.
  • Develop, maintain and execute Shared Objectives and Service Level Agreements.
  • Champions and advocates for the Global Buying Policy. Ensures compliance.
  • Represents Global Supply Management (GSM) within the plant/business which would involve engaging Corporate functions, Shared Services as well as Corporate GSM functions as necessary to assure global Buying Policy enforcement; global Customs Compliance adherence. Establishes linkage between GSM Strategy, Business Strategy and Plant Strategy through shared objectives.
  • Assures Contribution Metrics are updated and linked with site/business cost reduction portfolio by active leader/member of cross-functional teams focused on process improvement, cost reduction and supply chain enhancements. Leverages site spend with business and corporate spend.
  • Creates and maintains contractual documents (Supply Agreements, Pricing Agreements, Non Disclosure Agreements, Certificates of Insurance, etc.).
  • Maintains effective supplier relationships by means of audits, visits, evaluations to review areas such as capabilities and capacities. Identifies new or alternative sources as necessary. Develops Risk Mitigation plans where necessary.
  • Engages early supplier involvement as necessary in new product development (process design, commodity overviews, IP opportunities, technical advantages, JDA, etc.).
  • Locates and selects potential sources of materials or services (site specific excluding global commodities).
  • Interacts with Strategic Sourcing to understand the supply base and market dynamics, support execution of commodity and supplier sourcing strategy.
  • Collaborates with planning or production control to effectively control material scheduling and planning.
  • Works with Finance on standard setting and cost reduction budgeting, price forecasting, etc.
  • Is main contact between Commodity and site for implementing change.
  • Drives site implementation and advocacy of centralized RTP process.
  • Is an active leader/member of cross-functional teams focused on process improvement, cost reduction and supply chain issue resolution, new product development.
  • Evaluates competitive offerings to determine the best overall offering for a product or service.
  • Communicates negotiation strategy to BSM and other key internal stakeholders in order to gain buyoff.
  • Protects Intellectual Property (IP). Conducts IP audits.
  • Ensures compliance with internal and external auditing requirements related especially to GSM or any other certification (if applicable).



  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience in manufacturing – operations, planning, engineering, supply management, or procurement
  • Experience as a Plant or Corporate Buyer
  • Experience with GSM processes and systems
  • Experience as a supervisor
  • Technical aptitude/capability
  • Experience in frontline or mainstream business experience
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Experience leading cross functional teams

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), APICS, or certification related to Supply Chain, etc.
