Job Summary
Performs routine nursing assistant tasks independently in patients' homes and nursing facilities, under the supervision of nursing staff, based on the NHPCO standards of practice that ensures self-determined life closure, safe and comfortable dying and effective grieving. Provide personal care services for an assigned patient population through the exercise of technical skills as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Implements assigned plans of care for patients/families and keep patient areas tidy and clean.
  • Prepares light meals, feeds or assists patients with meal intake, makes beds, changes soiled bed linens, does laundry, bathes, dresses, and grooms patients and provides oral hygiene.
  • Administers enemas as directed by nursing staff, changes briefs, empties bed pans, catheter bags, colostomy/ileostomy bags and bedside commodes.
  • Performs skin care and simple dressing changes, performs vitals signs to include temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure.
  • Assists patients getting in/out of bed and ambulates using assistive devices including walkers, canes, and wheelchairs and assist with simple prescribed exercises.
  • Communicates significant information to other persons responsible for or involved in the care of the patient.
  • Completes electronic documentation for CNA visits as required by regulatory rules, third party payers, Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Maintains a calm, composed customer focused manner in a challenging environment that often requires flexibility.
Physical Requirements
Requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or office conditions. Must speak and understand English fluently. Various settings including: climate controlled office, hospitals, facilities, and patient homes.

Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required and completion of a nursing assistant training program approved by the State Board of Nursing . Current Certified Nursing Assistant listing with the Division of Facility Services as a CNA I or CNA II required. 3 years of CNA experience required. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required. Experience working with seriously ill patients and their families preferred.
