Job Purpose:
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific professional who serves as an extension of the Medical Affairs organization. The MSL works throughout a product's lifecycle, helping to ensure that products are utilized safely and effectively, serves as a scientific resource within the medical community, establishes and maintains peer-to-peer relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) at major academic institutions and clinics and is a scientific expert to internal colleagues at the company. The primary responsibility MSL is the balanced exchange of medical information and education with KOL's and health care professionals (HCPs) involved with the management of iron deficiency anemia (IDA). The role of an MSL is non-promotional in nature. The MSL works to shape the IDA care through Pharmacosmos' medicines, research and customer service excellence.

This position covers the Mid Atlantic territory, which includes PA, NC, KY, OH, WV, VA, DC, DE, MD. Applicants residing in NC or VA are preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The MSL/ Snr MSL is expected to:
  • Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date scientific expertise of disease state, clinical information, product data, and the competitor landscape within the therapeutic area of IDA.
  • Align day-to-day activities with Medical Affairs strategic objectives and the Field Medical Affairs Plan, with flexibility depending upon evolving business needs.
  • Present scientific product related data and disease awareness information in the hospital, institutional, and academic settings.
  • Provide high quality scientific information to HCPs.
  • Respond to unsolicited medical information requests in the field with appropriate documentation.
  • Identify and develop professional relationships with KOLs by engaging in ongoing and balanced scientific exchanges in disease areas of strategic importance to PTI.
  • Develop and execute territory medical plan. Use national and regional medical plans to develop and align the tactical plan for own geography of responsibility.
  • In collaboration with Medical Directors serve as liaison to HCPs and the company for unsolicited Investigator Solicited Studies (ISSs) and HCP-initiated projects after inception by the investigator, approval for support by the company, and completion of the trial, with publication of the data.
  • Collaborate with HCPs on medical affairs initiatives including publications, advisory boards, medical education opportunities, training and speaker development.
  • Provide disease state awareness, product information and pharmacoeconomic analyses as presentations or other forms of scientific exchange to regional managed care organizations, payers, and other formulary decision makers per unsolicited requests.
  • Support educational meetings (local, regional, national) focused on IDA management by interacting with HCP speakers to provide briefings around compliance, product information, clinical and scientific data, and support development of presentations.
  • Represent the assigned products and overall therapeutic areas to the highest ethical and professional standards and in accordance with the relevant guidelines and SOPs.
  • Successfully mentor new MSLs as they join the Medical Affairs field team.
  • Participate and/or lead in the creation of national congress summary reports.
  • Fulfil Pharmacovigilance responsibilities as defined in the pharmacovigilance SOPs related to medical enquiries and drug safety information.
  • Prepare and present information for initial and ongoing training of sales personnel pertaining to background disease state awareness, company product information and an understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Proactively and collegially interact with other field based and internal colleagues; provide information to internal colleagues regarding regional and local issues that impact business and/or healthcare practice.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to PTI & the team to support strategic growth objectives.
  • Proven ability to deliver field intelligence via the submission of clinical insights.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education & Professional Background:
  • The qualified candidate will have a doctoral degree in a health sciences related field such as a PharmD, DNP, MD or Ph.D., with a thorough grasp of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • 4+ years of related work experience (academic, research, clinician, consulting or industry experience); 2+ years of MSL experience preferred.
  • Proven experience building KOL relationships or related therapeutic area with established track record of developing relationships with top tier medical experts.
  • Previous experience of working within Hematology/Oncology preferred.
  • Knowledge of the PhRMA, OIG and other relevant guidelines.
  • Good understanding of the clinical development process and the ICH-GCP guidelines.

  • Field-based role - must be located within the pre-specified regional territory.
  • Travelling - ability to travel up to 70% (based on the size of respective geography).
