PeaceHealth is seeking a Manager Clinical Nutrition Services Interim - Food & Nutrition Services for a .8 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

Manages the coordination of the activities of Clinical Nutrition with responsibility for results including costs, methods, and staffing.  Responsible for operational performance, quality, service environment and regulatory compliance.  Receives assignment in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.  Responsible for the oversight of the coordination of all phases of nutrition care including nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education and counseling of hospitalized patients and outpatient care in a variety of settings.  Supervises clinical dietary and support caregivers.



  1. Lead the clinical dietary teams to enhance nutritional programs.  Participate as part of interdisciplinary clinical teams to deliver nutritional care which promotes health and control of disease for patients. Manage daily operations including resources management.  Supervise assigned caregivers, monitor and prioritize workflow.  Assure effective utilization of resources.
  2. Manages vendor contracts, reviewing them on an ongoing basis to assure best purchasing practices.    Serves as primary contact for all vendors and sales representatives.  Audit vendor prices, arrange for product evaluation, and generate all monthly financial reports.
  3. Interview and hire clinical dietitians and dietary support positions to fill vacancies as necessary; assign program specialties such as renal, pediatric, or surgery to department dietary caregivers based upon knowledge, training, and experience; review departmental workload and assign work or change assignments according to patient load and staff availability; provide or arrange for training and skills development of caregivers; coordinate the work of the dietary department with other departments, units, or sections for efficiency and optimal service to patients; prepare and sign performance appraisals and administer a correction actions in accordance with PeaceHealth policies and guidelines.
  4. Meet with physicians, nurses, and department leadership to develop or revise policies and procedures which relate to patient care clinical nutrition or require interaction with other departments; issues written and verbal instructions governing work procedures of the dietary unit such as record keeping changes; develop standards for quality and quantity of work and review standards with leadership; explain established work policies and procedures to dietary caregivers; develop quality assurance plans to measure compliance with institutional standards of care and State or Federal program guidelines as applicable.
  5. Oversee Clinical Dietitians in the implementation of  physician's diet order and meet with physician as necessary to discuss revisions or augmentations such as vitamin therapy; select types and amounts of food for therapeutic diets based on indicated physiologic and psychological needs of patients and integrate them with basic institutional menus and patient food preferences; determine mode of feeding for infants or patients with chewing or swallowing difficulties; prepare home diet plans for outpatients or patients leaving the institution.
  6. Perform nutritional care plan follow up. Inspect meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance; visit patients on ward or specialty rounds and during clinical appointments to note patients' responses to diet program; calculate and record dietary intake of patients on medical records; modify nutrition care plan as necessary; provide patient with follow-up training on such topics as nutrition, food preparation, and record keeping; may assign food inspection, nutrition calculation, and record keeping duties to dietetic technicians.
  7. Develop and administer a clinical dietary quality program, measures clinical dietary outcomes, recommends enhancements, adjustments and leads the change management process. Provides senior department leadership with monthly quality assessment reports.
  8. Participates with department leadership in strategic and budget planning, monitors budget expenditures, looks for cost saving and revenue generation opportunities.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.




  • Bachelor’s degree that meets ADA (American Dietetic Association) requirements is required or a combination of education and professional experience that provides the incumbent with the requisite knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform the job.



  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience required.
  • Experience with continuous improvement, planning and program development is required.



  • Current license/registration/certification as required by State to practice as a Dietitian.
  • Current Medicare provider status number may be required.
  • Clinician or Board Certified Specialist in areas such as Oncology Nutrition, Rental Nutrition, Sports Dietetics, Gerontological Nutrition, etc. is preferred.



  • Ability to deliver financial results for areas of accountability.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficient use of computers including MS Office applications.
  • Strong customer service and results focus.
  • Skill in planning, organizing and delegating functional activities.
  • Ability to motivate and coach caregivers, promote ongoing learning and lead improvement activities.



  • Work requires active physical exertion from 34 to 65% of the time.   
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.          
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.     
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).
