Position Summary

Leads facility and its associated ambulatory and post-acute care areas participation in the planning, development, training, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of Clinical Information Systems (CIS) across the enterprise as it relates to care coordination. Leads process workflow redesign and utilizes gap analysis to identify workflow impact of CIS implementations. Directs the strategic interdisciplinary coordination of the clinical information modules within the facility and its associated ambulatory and post-acute care areas. Functions as a liaison for additional Clinical Informatics Systems collaboration as requested. Leads and facilitates the Entity Implementation Team in conjunction with the executive sponsor to execute facility and system wide projects. Acts as change agent at the facility level utilizing process improvement and project management methodologies to implement CIS projects. Serves as project leader/facility deployment manager to ensure smooth, safe, efficient application implementations. Leads and coordinates the implementation of software upgrades with the interdisciplinary team at the facility level. Responsible for facilitating communication from the clinical and non-clinical end users across the various departments while working collaboratively with vendors and technical experts. Represents facility informatic needs during strategic planning. Determines availability of required quality data elements needed for clinical documentation and decision making. Manages resources through different phases of the system life cycle. Works to optimize the clinical design to meet the needs of a large group of interdisciplinary end users, including physicians, nurses, respiratory care practitioners, ancillary, clinical and administrative staff. Analyzes aggregate quality data and identifies patterns within data to access outcomes. Participates in research studies and implementation of research activity as it relates to Healthcare IT. Audits clinical documentation as needed to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and provides education and training as needed. Participates on P&P committees as needed. Keeps current with changes and trends in the informatics and Healthcare IT arena with a strong commitment to lifelong learning. Serves as member of the Centura Clinical Informatics Care Coordination Team, establishing teamwork through appropriate deployment of process, technical, and human resources in collaboration with the Directors of Clinical Informatics, the CNIO and the assigned Project Managers. Approximately 10% or more of travel required throughout the Centura-wide system as needed to facilitate project implementations.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • BSN or Bachelor’s Degree in a clinical related area required

  • RN preferred or related clinical healthcare discipline

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience

  • Understanding of hospital, ambulatory and post-acute care operations, interdepartmental processes and interdisciplinary interactions and workflows in the healthcare setting.

  • Basic proficiency with PC software applications (e.g. word processing, MS applications)

  • Experience with process improvement and/or information systems within a clinical setting preferred

  • Epic experience preferred

  • Proven Management/Leadership Experience preferred


  • License or certification in related clinical field

  • Informatics Board Certification or ability to obtain informatics certification based on eligibility as defined by ANCC guidelines within 9 months of hire required

  • Participates in Informatic professional associations such as ANIA, HIMSS, CHIMSS, AMIA, etc.

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

  • Provide strategic and tactical evaluation, and coordination of multiple clinical information modules within the facility and its associated ambulatory and post-acute care areas. Coordinate and manage intermodular processes that are specific to this facility and its associated ambulatory and post-acute care areas. Lead the facility’s Entity Implementation Team in conjunction with the executive sponsor.*

  • Provide strategic and tactical planning statewide teams to update and enhance processes and content.  *

  • Promote and ensure standardization and consistency across the enterprise where the opportunity exists*

  • Remains aware of delivery of system transformation activation throughout all Centura venues of care.*

  • Shows willingness to evolve role as system transformation occurs to a value-based care delivery*

  • Understands the value of measurement and importance of continuous quality improvement data; uses quality measures to improve performance and accountability for patient outcomes, patient experiences and safe delivery of care*

  • Promotes and participates in the use of data analytics to derive patterns in the patient populations we serve and devise strategies to improve patient outcomes*

  • A member of the facility leadership committees involved with Quality and Patient Safety, Clinical Effectiveness, Professional Development, and Clinical Documentation.*

  • Guides operational direction for the clinical information systems that support multidisciplinary clinical and nonclinical services and related projects along with facility clinical leaders.*

  • Assist in system assessment of proposed future technology for positive impact in the clinical environment*

  • Facilitates and assesses the various facility departments to prioritize the organizations clinical information needs*

  • Maintains current knowledge of Centura and facility initiatives, policies and procedures, evidence based practice, health information technology, and in clinical informatics*

  • Employ project management and change management skills and techniques to lead process development and system implementation*

  • Collaborate with clinical care members to identify, plan, and improve clinical care processes as it impacts informatics. Utilizes standard methodologies for process improvement to include documentation of current and future state workflows.*

  • Develops training tools to aid educational efforts in collaboration with facility educational resources as it relates to the Information System*

  • Serves as positive change agent and works to promote adoption of technological solutions.*

  • Routinely conducts purposeful observation through rounding and patient follow-throughs in the assigned facility and its associated ambulatory and post-acute care areas to gain overall knowledge on facility specific workflow, patient throughput, and challenges with technology solutions*

  • Align with care coordination teams to identify and eliminate duplicative or unnecessary care*

  • Translates essential clinical processes into technological tools that result in enhanced workflow.*

  • Directs, plans, and ensures completion of approved projects, at the facility level as they pertain to clinical care.*

  • Assesses clinical systems effectiveness for the facility. Develops plans for remediation in collaboration with Information Technology, and operations members. *

  • Participates on Centura corporate councils, performance improvement teams, evidence based practice groups and the like as requested to ensure effective integration of clinical systems with objectives of the team*

  • Collaborate with IT and physician trainers to develop and maintain curriculum.*

  • Works collaboratively with Information Technology staff in the development of solutions. Participates as requested in system testing.*

  • Pursue opportunities to build relationships and team approach tactics with IT*
