Overview

Plans, develops, implements and evaluates administrative management and strategy of the Pharmacy department by establishing and maintaining standards, systems and processes to ensure operations support the mission, goals and objectives of the hospital. Performs a variety of direct and indirect pharmacy services by providing therapeutic consultation regarding application and dispensing of medication therapies in accordance with applicable licensing and regulatory standards

Responsibilities

* Directs, manages and supervises daily administrative operations of the Pharmacy to ensure highest quality service response and delivery consistent with established professional, regulatory and governmental standards
* Develops operational and financial outcome measures, related tracking and monitoring systems and a mechanism to integrate efforts into organization-wide Quality Improvement systems
* Directs, implements and evaluates development of departmental, functional and/or service related policies and procedures
* Proactively assesses program, service and functional effectiveness; makes regular and consistent effort to develop and facilitate continuous process improvement.
* Develops and supervises staff through provision of timely feedback and use of appropriate Human Resource policies and tools to facilitate and ensure the ability of staff to achieve highest level of professional growth and desired performance standards
* Plans, directs, implements and evaluates computer-based pharmacy information and dispensing system to ensure ongoing efficiency and accuracy of data capture
* Develops, manages and supervises purchasing and inventory management functions to ensure cost effective inventory management while providing timely availability to appropriate pharmaceuticals and related products
* Facilitates the professional growth of staff by accurately assessing learning needs, styles and barriers to learning; coordinates learning opportunities.
* Prepares monthly progress/operational report; identifies areas of improvement, concern and recommended
* Selects, compounds, dispenses and preserves drug therapy and other therapeutic agents as prescribed by an authorized medical practitioner in compliance with established standards and age appropriateness
* Reviews patient chart for drug sensitivities, drug interactions, incompatibilities , dosage and therapy treatment in accordance with patient diagnosis and conditions
* Meets with patient, patient family and/or responsible party to verify understanding of medication, potential drug interactions, possible side effects, storage and instructions regarding usage; documents in patient chart
* Provides clinical pharmacy services including patient evaluation for OTC medications, Chronic Disease Protocols, and other Specialty Clinics per approved protocols
* Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
* Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor

Qualifications

* Current State of Arizona Pharmacy License
* Must have a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy; PharmD preferred including 1 year residency
* Must have 5 years professional experience with 2 year management experience
