The Manager, US Federal Government Affairs will be a key member of Corning’s Global Government Affairs group, supporting the company’s federal public policy and advocacy objectives through legislative analysis, direct advocacy, development of internal and external communications content and preparing briefing materials for executive engagement in policy-related forums. In consultation with the Vice President, Global Government Affairs, and the federal government affairs team, this role will engage with federal offices and trade associations to complement the company’s advocacy and thought leadership objectives and support the management of the Corning Employees’ Political Action Committee (COREPAC).

Responsibilities:

  • Support a federal multi-issue policy portfolio, including tracking legislation and regulations impacting business operations, and working collaboratively with the federal government affairs team to support the development and execution of effective advocacy plans consistent with business objectives.
  • Develop, edit and update federal government affairs communications assets, to include:
    • Legislative and policy-related resources such as issue papers, talking points, speeches and letters for use by government affairs and business executives;
    • Regular updates on federal government affairs and political activities, including presentations, intranet content refreshes, and internal newsletters;
    • External-facing content development in collaboration with Corning’s communications team to ensure message alignment on public policy issues;
    • Development of content to policy-making stakeholders, including Capitol Hill outreach, highlighting Corning’s presence in and contributions to communities.
  • Support executive participation in government affairs activities, to include:
    • Developing briefing materials for meetings and site visits with government officials and policy makers; and
    • Developing briefing materials on policy-related topics for presentations to coalitions, boards, or other speaking or media opportunities.
  • Attend advocacy meetings, hearings and events with key hill and administration officials and staff.
  • Represent Corning at external trade associations and coalitions, informing and shaping their advocacy platforms consistent with company policy priorities.
  • Manage the development, approval, and execution of COREPAC’s fundraising plan, communications, and election cycle disbursement budget.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 4+ years’ experience in government or public affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate, in writing and verbally, complex points to a wide array of audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including internal and external partners.
  • Highly resourceful team player with demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to travel and attend evening events.
  • Proficient computer skills, including expert level Microsoft Office skills.
