Manager, Sales Strategy 




The primary responsibilities of this role, Manager, Sales Strategy, are to:

  • Lead the development of the annual national trade plans by brand/category, focusing on Bayer brand business goals and Customer requirements while leveraging all data sources including consumer/shopper insights and syndicated data.  The national trade plan includes the following strategies and tactics:
    • Promotional;
    • Pricing;
    • Distribution;
    • Shelving.
  • Serve as the voice of Sales with Marketing on Brand Business Teams providing Sales perspective and POV and proactively champions/ influences sales aspects of key initiatives such as:
    • 4 P’s (promotional, placement, product/ assortment, pricing);
    • Timing;
    • Trade activation needs;
    • Customer response;
    • Competitive Intelligence;
    • Portfolio synergies.
  • Oversee the development of shopper marketing initiatives, selling stories and sales executional materials to support execution of trade strategies. Ensures efficient communication with Sales agent partner and Field Sales organization;
  • Champion brand strategy throughout Customer planning process, ensuring plans are aligned to trade strategies and leverage total portfolio synergies (ie Divisional events). Assists in the sell in to Customers of Brand business objectives;
  • Develop customer focused Category perspectives and leverages synergies across categories;
  • Drive and interpret ongoing analysis, research, and evaluation to evolve trade strategies and tactics as well as to communicate back to the organization best practices;
  • Lead communications and sharing of best practice learning to third party Sales Agent, Field Sales and Brand Management;
  • Act as an organizational advocate to enhance understanding and potential application of shopper engagement.

Required Qualifications:


  • BS or BA degree required; MBA desirable
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive Sales, Sales Management, Trade Marketing, and/or Sales Agent Management experience in the consumer packaged goods industry - The proven track record should also have included a minimum of 3 years of Field Customer Marketing, Category Management or Headquarters Sales Strategy experience, as well as exposure to all trade classes;
  • Must have experience dealing with both Field and Headquarters organizations and a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity as to managing resources (preferably direct);
  • Excellence in analysis, interpretation of data and ability to translate into action-oriented recommendations and directions;
  • Ability to communicate, both written or orally, in a clear, concise and effective manner with an emphasis in the ability to successfully deliver oral presentations to large groups, as well as influence small groups and one-on-one discussions;
  • Strong financial skill set is required with experience in a basic understanding of brand P&L’s, ROI and budget management;
  • Ability to prioritize opportunities based on required time invested and manages team to successful results;
  • Must have demonstrated leadership ability in successfully getting agreements and results through multi-functional groups and non-direct reports.
