The Manager, Packaging and Warehouse Operations position is available at the Merck Animal Health facility in De Soto, Kansas, located near Kansas City metropolitan area.  The DeSoto facility is expanding operations to manufacturing vaccines and biologics for large and companion animals.  Leveraging an experienced and innovative team environment, the key technologies at the site are biologics production using fermentation and cell culture platforms, filling and packaging.

The Manager, Packaging and Warehouse Operations will manage a team of skilled Technicians responsible for the regulated packaging of animal health products and warehouse operations for the site. Plan, coordinate, manage activities, a nd supervise employees to ensure that products are manufactured in accordance with appropriate regulatory requirements in a manner that meets the needs of the Business.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates a strong compliance mind-set (EHS, Quality and Finance) and continuously sets a high standard for themselves and their team.
  • Oversee and direct the daily activities of the work teams to include staffing, training, developing, and managing annual performance reviews. Foster a positive work environment, leveraging collaborative team work and good communication.
  • Schedule and monitor manufacturing activities, providing timely feedback to management and production planning on issues impacting inventory and schedule adherence. 
  • Willing to step up as a “working leader” in times of peak activities, including periodic weekend coverage
  • Ensure compliance with Regulatory and Merck policies and practices with regard to facilities, management, documentation, and procedures directly associated with manufacturing USDA licensed and unlicensed vaccine products. 
  • Ensure a safe work environment for employees to include the completion of required training, the proper maintenance of manufacturing equipment and the compliant performance of daily activities. 
  • Serve as a Quality or EHS system owner, such areas such as chemical or waste management.
  • Participate on Site Leadership Team as needed, to establish and execute site goals
  • Lead and or participate in special projects as assigned. 


Education :

  • High School Diploma/GED and 6 years of experience in relevant work experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Manufacturing experience
  • A minimum of 1 year people-management or Team Leadership experience 
  • Ability to lead and motivate team members and colleagues. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Effective computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 

  • Experience with Regulated Packaging, preferably in a pharma or biotech setting
  • Experience in Warehouse Operations
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. 
  • Working knowledge of SAP 
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and/or production line applications, logistics and planning. 
  • Analytical skills to include Problem Analysis, Problem Solving, Root Cause Investigation/Verification and Critical Thinking.
  • Bachelors Degree or higher in a related area (Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related science.
