PERFORMANCE PLANNING

The Outpatient pharmacy manager is responsible for the management of all aspects of outpatient pharmacy services both retail, specialty and assists with transitions of care. Responsible for providing direction and leadership to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students, interns and residents who provide pharmaceutical care to patients in the DCH Outpatient pharmacy. The manager will lead the development and maintenance of safe, timely, efficient, equitable, effective, and patient-centered pharmacy patient care services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* The pharmacy manager for the outpatient pharmacy and transitions of care responsibilities include outpatient pharmacy oversight of automation and technology, transitions of care, meds to beds program, retail/transitions medication safety/quality, customer service, operations, budgeting, advancing and optimizing pharmacy practice, planning and project management, and human resource management for professional and technical staff. These responsibilities are accomplished via a collaborative effort as a member of the pharmacy management team. Acts as supervising pharmacist for the assigned department. Responsible for all service measures and financial performance in their assigned department.
* Provides supervision & direction of the pharmacy services/activities/functions, including drug distribution, drug education, pharmacist clinical activities, retail business expansion, performance measurements, regulatory compliance, employee development & multi-disciplinary team development. Collaborate w/ providers, department heads, & Pharmacy Leadership team to implement, evaluate & improve quality management programs.
* Oversees strategic planning and innovation to meet institutional, departmental, patient care, and regulatory needs including capital and operating budgets for the cost centers while ensuring compliance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations pertaining to OSHA, Joint Commission, and policies and procedures set forth by the Department and the Alabama Board of Pharmacy. Participates in designing, implementing & evaluating systems, processes & methods designed to enhance quality, improve service, & enhance cost effectiveness.
* Manages departmental budget. Develops, implements, and maintains fiscally responsible operations that support day-to-day safe practices within the medication use process and serves as a point of contact for pharmacists and technicians to report workplace feedback.
* Interviews, selects, hires, and retains employees
* Ensures orientation and training for employees
* Manages performance
* Promotes, demotes, or transfers employees to meet organizational needs
* Executes progressive discipline up to and including termination
* Manages departmental productivity standards
* Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
* Approves payroll and is responsible for accurate payment of employees
* Manages front line operations of area of accountability related to meeting/exceeding departmental goals, 5 keys of excellence, DCH Mission and Vision.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

B.S. in pharmacy is required, Pharm.D. is preferred. MHA/MBA preferred. Must be currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama. License eligible pharmacists (ie Pharmacists licensed in other states) are acceptable provided they take and pass the pharmacist licensing exams required by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy within 3 months of employment. Skills in pharmacy business management, customer problem-resolution, leadership and supervision. Able to apply knowledge of contemporary outpatient pharmacy operations principles and standards, including clinical, professional, legal, business,and public relations aspects. Participation in professional organizations is strongly encouraged. Must be able to operate computer, calculator, telephone, prescription balance and other related pharmaceutical equipment. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
