Description
Oversee the day to day operations of pharmacy department and is responsible for the department's professional and administrative components.
+ Develop long-range plans and goals to create a professional program of excellence in all areas of pharmaceutical services in accordance with the objectives of the Medical Center.
+ Plan the physical layout of new and existing facilities to permit the creation of new services and the continuance of on-going services.
+ Interview, select, and develop staff with expertise in various specialties.
+ Develop an on-going educational program for purposes of training pharmacy interns, externs, residents, aides, and staff pharmacists in the concepts of pharmaceutical services and quality patient care.
+ Investigate, evaluate, and recommend equipment and supplies necessary for the efficient operation of the Pharmacy Department.
+ Establish procedures for the distribution, acquisition, and control of all restricted substances including controlled substances.
+ Develop a budget for Department operations to administer the expenditure of budget funds.
+ Initiate and develops a drug information program to meet the needs of the Medical Center and its nursing, paramedical, and medical staff.
+ In conjunction with the Director, develop and implement new methods of drug distribution and control to extend responsibility in these areas in order to achieve greater safety and efficiency.
+ Oversee the successful operation of the formulary system and maintains an up-to-date formulary of approved drugs.
+ Conducts research programs to aid in the development of pharmaceutical activities and programs.
+ Assists in the oversight of the development and maintenance of a comprehensive, cost efficient, clinical pharmacy program.
+ Assists in the development and successful continued operation of a full intravenous admixture service, including antineoplastic reconstruction, and parenteral nutritional programs.
+ All other duties as assigned.
Education:
+ Must possess an advanced Degree (in Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Administration, Business Administration, and Public Administration) with specialization in healthcare or equivalent (Doctor of Pharmacy).
Experience:
+ Must have five (5) years of experience in hospital pharmacy practice and have served in a supervisory capacity.
Knowledge and Skills:
+ Maintain awareness of trends in pharmaceutical activities by reading pharmaceutical and related literature by participating in professional continuing educational programs.
+ Develops and maintains a good relationship with other departments or services throughout the Medical Center.
+ Ability to fully utilize BHMC's electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
Licenses, Certifications:
+ New York State registered pharmacist (RPh) is required.
+ Current Board of Pharmacy license.
Physical Requirements:
+ Consistent with that necessary to work in a variety of patient care and office settings.
+ Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
+ Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
