Job Summary: 

The Mammography Technologist performs screening mammography exams and may also perform diagnostic mammography examinations. They obtain images of excellent diagnostic quality while providing maximum comfort and safety to the patient. The technologist uses independent judgment and necessary skills to obtain high quality radiographs. They educate the patient and/or family about the procedure, provide pre/post procedure instructions based on the age and understanding of the patient and/or family and verify understanding of these instructions. The technologist consistently provides accurate anatomic display and provides additional views or images to optimally demonstrate anatomy and/or pathology and takes measures to provide and care for the patient’s safety while properly utilizing procedure related patient care and support devices appropriate for the age of the patient.


Essential Functions:

• Operates specialized equipment and performs screening mammography and bone density studies
• Positions patients for the optimum images in connection with radiation safety for interoperation by radiologist
• Evaluates images for technical quality
• Completes studies in Athena EHR and ‘MagView’ to facilitate accurate billing and reporting for study and verifies accuracy of clinical history provided by patient necessary for radiologist to interpret bone density exam
• Clean equipment after every patient in compliance with standard protocols
• Assist in everyday operations of department to ensure smooth operations and minimal wait time for patients
• Uses education to allay patient fears and provides answers to questions in easy to understand language when needed
• DXA, archives exams to PACS system and transfers exams to Radiologist for interpretation
• Anticipate duties to support team efforts and smooth operation of department
• Assist Director and coworkers with any new projects as needed
• Quality control test on DXA equipment daily and Mammography equipment weekly
• Perform quality mammographic images based on policies and procedures set forth by accreditation standards
• Perform quality DXA scans based on Clinical Densitometrist Regulation 3.
• Interacts closely with Patients, MA Staff, co-workers and Physicians, equipment support personnel, and Vendors
• Clinical Care: Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients on a 24-hour basis, and the
Unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag.
• Position may require local travel between various locations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications: 

Education, Training and Experience
Required: Associates of Science Degree in Radiologic Technology includes continuing education units on a yearly basis as required by licensing.

Minimum of 1 year continuous mammography experience or equivalent.
