Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)

**This is a Stanford Blood Center job.**

**A Brief Overview**

Independently operate, maintain and troubleshoot multicolor flow cytometers such as LSRII, FACSAria II, and FACSCantoII for research and clinical use. Perform high-complexity testing and design protocols for complex scientific research with emphasis to multicolor flow cytometry including contribution to research projects for publication and conference presentation. Perform multicolor flow cytometry data analysis and statistics using FACSDiva, Flowjo and Graphpad prism softwares. Fixed Term position, up to 6 months.

**What you will do**

+ Operate, and set-up testing and/or sorting using Flow cytometry instruments.Perform high complexity clinical lab testing using flow cytometry, including and functional assays complimenting Flow cytometry.Perform analysis of flow cytometry data using Flowjo and FACSDiva including presentation of outcome in PowerPoint graphics and Excel worksheets.Handling of potentially infected blood and blood products.Perform leucocount assay for monitoring blood product QC.Perform human primary cell characterization, separation, subset isolation, storage and inventory maintenance.Provide assistance to clinicians and research scientists, including students and postdocs, in their projects as they relate to flow cytometry.Assist in planning and determining best approach to the experimental design based on knowledge of scientific theory, as needed.Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.Offer suggestions regarding modification of procedures and protocols.Orient and train new staff, students and or other scientists, as needed.

+ Maintain good quality assurance of flow cytometry laboratory in accordance to CAP and CLIA regulations.Perform testing of proficiency samples for regulatory compliance.Collaborate with other researchers and other blood center departments.Maintenance of monthly logs and proficiency survey reports and reviews.Reviews literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new protocols and related research.Utilize analytical calculation using Graphpad prism software.

+ Perform daily instrument setup, calibration and necessary maintenance and troubleshooting of LSRFortessa X20, FACSCanto II and FACSAria II.Maintenance, setup and troubleshooting of Robosep for cell isolation.

+ Perform general laboratory maintenance, maintain lab supplies, manage inventory, keep records and provide general lab support.Maintain timely pipet calibrations records and send out.Order supplies, as needed.

+ Comply with governmental regulations and Stanford Health Care and Blood Center policies regarding health and safety. Observe and support good health and safety practices.

+ Strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and employees. Act as a responsible information steward and treats information as sensitive and confidential in accordance with federal and state laws and with professional ethics, accreditation standards and legal requirements. Do not disclose protected health information inappropriately.

+ May be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.

**Education Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's Degree in related scientific field. Required

**Experience Qualifications**

+ 2+ years to 3 years Laboratory experience Required and

+ 1+ year to 2 years Immunology and/or flow cytology experience Preferred

**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

+ Flexibility in schedule, as workload demands required.

+ Knowledge in immunology for characterization of primary cells and their subsets desired.

+ Understanding of flow cytometry testing and analysis desired.

+ Knowledge in development of new protocols and assay evaluation using variety of approaches desired.

+ Ability to organize time and work independently and efficiently to meet clinical and research results turnaround times desired.
